Bengaluru Plans 105-Acre NGEF Tree Park by 2025

KIADB will develop unused NGEF land in Baiyappanahalli into a two-phase tree park, preserving existing greenery and buildings.

Key facts

The Karnataka Industrial Area Development Board (KIADB) plans to convert 105 acres of unused land belonging to the defunct New Government Electrical Factory (NGEF) in Baiyappanahalli into a tree park by 2025. Groundwork is expected to begin in December 2024. Of the total area, 70 acres will be developed as parkland, retaining 60–70 acres of dense tree cover and eight buildings. SR Construction Company received a ₹10 crore contract for the first phase, covering 15–20 acres; work is to avoid tree cutting, environmental harm and pollution. The first phase is expected to take six months and include an entry plaza, walking paths, children’s play area, cycling dock station, food courts, coffee shops, waterfront, sculpture courts, signage, rest areas, a 1.4 km walkway, 200-metre elevated walkway, suspension bridge, pet zone and observation towers. Phase two will add an innovation hub, cultural arts centre, nursery, sports complex, multi-purpose auditorium and Wi-Fi facilities. The project aims to preserve NGEF heritage and showcase Karnataka’s culture and traditions.
