The Bengaluru East City Corporation will take over 51 properties after owners failed to pay property tax despite notices and auction attempts. The article gives conflicting zone counts: it initially says 28 properties in Mahadevapura, owing over ₹52 lakh, and 21 in KR Puram; later it says 28 in Mahadevapura and 23 in KR Puram remained unresolved. Owners have one month from notification to pay. Otherwise, under the Greater Bengaluru Governance Act, 2025, and related rules, the corporation will take ownership at guideline value, deduct the tax due and return any balance to owners’ bank accounts. Enforcement followed show-cause and demand notices, reminders and unsuccessful auctions. Separately, as of March 6, the GBA identified 81 properties in north Bengaluru for auction: 47 in Zone 1 owed ₹1.32 crore and 34 in Zone 2 owed about ₹62.18 lakh, totalling around ₹1.94 crore. Nearly 7,000 properties citywide had ₹437 crore in arrears; seven properties auctioned across East and North zones drew bids exceeding ₹7 crore.

BBMP collected a record ₹4,930 crore in property tax in financial year 2024–25, more than ₹1,000 crore above the previous year. Mahadevapura was the top contributor.

Mahadevapura collected ₹1,154.49 crore of its ₹1,309.04-crore property tax target by the end of November, achieving 88.19%. K.R. Pura and Hoodi sub-divisions each reached 90% progress. BBMP said about 2 lakh defaulters used its One Time Settlement scheme, which ended November 30; 3.95 lakh defaulters were listed, and the response was below expectations.

BBMP aims to bring around 5 lakh properties into the tax net through e-khata. Of 21 lakh digitised properties, at least 2.5 lakh lacked property identification numbers in the draft e-khata. Mahadevapura zone has 4.29 lakh properties; BBMP received 6,012 applications for final e-khata and approved and distributed documents for 3,851 properties. It added three Assistant Revenue Officer and 47 Content Administrator logins to speed distribution, and plans a special drive at housing complexes, residents’ welfare associations and extensions. Bengaluru Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) Chairperson Dr N Manjula directed officials to accelerate construction of nine World Bank-funded sewage treatment plants (STPs) across Bengaluru, with combined treatment capacity of 148 MLD. At a progress-review meeting at Cauvery Bhavan, she assessed projects supported by the World Bank and Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), including STPs, sewerage networks, wastewater treatment and water-supply works. She sought updates on STP and sewerage works in the Rajarajeshwari Nagar, Dasarahalli, Byatarayanapura, Bommanahalli and Mahadevapura zones, and directed officials to set timelines for every project, respond promptly to local concerns and prioritize worker safety. The proposed JICA-supported Cauvery Water Supply Scheme Stage VI has been finalized, with final-stage discussions held on loan approval. Manjula directed officials to design it to meet future drinking-water needs in Bengaluru and surrounding areas.

Bengaluru has proposed six Metro extensions:

• Purple Line: Challaghatta to Bidadi, about 15 km; KR Puram to Hoskote, 16 km.
• Green Line: Silk Institute to Harohalli, 24 km; Madavara to Tumakuru, 59 km.
• Yellow Line: Bommasandra to Attibele, 11 km.
• Pink Line: Kalena Agrahara to Kadugodi Tree Park, about 68 km.

The Tumakuru extension is undergoing a detailed project report (DPR) process; its feasibility report has been submitted. The other five proposals await government approval, after which feasibility reports would be prepared and submitted, followed by DPRs if approved. The extensions aim to improve access to industrial areas, employment corridors and educational institutions, save travel time and reduce traffic. BMRCL recently finalised a contractor for a short Purple Line extension intended for train maintenance.
