Bengaluru Traffic Police proposed 25 flyovers and underpasses to ease congestion as vehicle numbers approach 1.5 crore. They identified 246 severely pressured junctions and asked the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) for 2,340 traffic signs, thermoplastic lane markings at 707 locations, removal of unscientific speed breakers, fixes at 137 waterlogging spots, relocation of 103 bus stops, 63 bus bays, over 100 skywalks and multi-level parking at 66 locations.

Adaptive traffic signals operate at 169 junctions; approval covers 110 more, with five years’ maintenance, for ₹56.45 crore. Tendering is under way. The state approved 11 elevated corridors spanning 75.60 km at ₹13,262.70 crore.

Proposed locations: Pottery Road and Lingarajapuram railway underpasses; Nagawara Junction and Pottery Junction–Nagawara Junction; Jayanthinagar near Banaswadi; Bhattarahalli near KR Puram; Kundalahalli Road’s HSR U-turn; KR Puram railway station; Phoenix Mall and Big Bazaar junctions in Mahadevapura; Binny Mill railway gate on Magadi Road; SM Circle at Jalahalli Cross; Chokkasandra, T Dasarahalli; Hesaraghatta Cross (Eighth Mile); CMTI Junction, Tumakuru Road; Hebbal Junction, Outer Ring Road; NES Junction, Yelahanka; Sadahalli Gate near Chikkajala; K2 bus stop–Hebbal Junction, Sanjaynagar; Bharatiya City Junction, Hennur; Sarakki, JD Mara and Iblur junctions. High-density corridors include Bellary, Old Madras, Old Airport, Sarjapur, Bannerghatta, Kanakapura, Mysuru, Magadi, Tumakuru, West of Chord and Outer Ring roads.

Pedestrians on Old Airport Road between Marathahalli and Kundalahalli Gate are stepping onto the busy carriageway to pass footpath obstructions. The problem is particularly acute near the Kundalahalli Gate underpass, where a commercial complex has enclosed part of the footpath within its compound, citing pending land compensation. The road connects Marathahalli, Kundalahalli Gate and Varthur Kodi.

BBMP is building an underpass near Marathahalli railway bridge, where Old Airport Road meets the Outer Ring Road, to ease congestion and allow quicker U-turns. It is the third underpass on the corridor and is expected to reduce pressure at Old Airport Road and Kundalahalli junction, which carry heavy traffic towards Whitefield and Varthur.

The project costs about ₹6 crore. One section and a major entrance have opened; traffic police warn that remaining work may cause congestion and slower travel. Completion may take another 20–30 days: the traffic commissioner indicated 20 days, while BBMP engineers estimated 30. The underpass will reduce the current U-turn journey of about 1.5 km to a point around 200 metres from Marathahalli junction, BBMP executive engineer Jayashankar Reddy said.

Land acquisition disputes, including a nearby place of worship’s reluctance to cede land, delayed work; Mahadevapura MLA Aravind Limbavali helped resolve the issue. Earlier corridor works include the Kundalahalli underpass, opened by BBMP for about ₹19.5 crore, and the HAL Old Airport Road–Suranjandas Road underpass, opened in January 2023. Experts caution that grade separators may shift rather than eliminate congestion.

Bengaluru’s Purple Line operates end-to-end between Whitefield (Kadugodi) and Challaghatta, spanning about 43–43.5 km and 37 stations. The full journey takes around 80–85 minutes; fares range from ₹10 to ₹90, with a full-length trip costing about ₹90. First trains from Whitefield leave at about 5:00 am; the last train from Challaghatta is around 10:45 pm, with inter-station service until about 11:05 pm. Stations named include Hopefarm Channasandra, Kadugodi Tree Park, Pattanduru Agrahara, Sri Sathya Sai Hospital, Nallurhalli, Kundalahalli, Seetharampalya, Hoodi, Garudacharapalya, KR Puram, Baiyappanahalli, MG Road, Majestic (Kempegowda) and Mahalakshmi Layout. Majestic connects to the Green Line; QR tickets are available through the Namma Metro app, including WhatsApp options. Silk Board links to Yellow, Blue and ORR projects are planned; Hoskote and Bidadi connectivity timelines have been discussed around 2030. The Pink Line is expected to begin commercial operations in phases during 2026.
