A South Western Railway property adjacent to Banaswadi Railway Station has become a dumping ground. Residents of Hutchins Road report that miscreants regularly set garbage fires on the land, creating safety hazards for nearby homes and infrastructure. An electrical transformer is located nearby, with potential damage to BESCOM and resident inconvenience if fire spreads. This is the fourth recorded incident of garbage fires. Greater Bengaluru Authority set a one-month deadline for vacant plot owners to clear waste. Residents blame South Western Railway, Bengaluru North City Corporation (BNCC), and Bengaluru Solid Waste Management Limited (BSWML) for inadequate oversight. BNCC and BSWML have cleared garbage heaps, but dumping continues. Cooke Town Nivasigala Sangha president Albert R criticized South Western Railway for repeatedly constructing and demolishing compound walls around the land.

Bengaluru Traffic Police proposed 25 flyovers and underpasses to ease congestion as vehicle numbers approach 1.5 crore. They identified 246 severely pressured junctions and asked the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) for 2,340 traffic signs, thermoplastic lane markings at 707 locations, removal of unscientific speed breakers, fixes at 137 waterlogging spots, relocation of 103 bus stops, 63 bus bays, over 100 skywalks and multi-level parking at 66 locations.

Adaptive traffic signals operate at 169 junctions; approval covers 110 more, with five years’ maintenance, for ₹56.45 crore. Tendering is under way. The state approved 11 elevated corridors spanning 75.60 km at ₹13,262.70 crore.

Proposed locations: Pottery Road and Lingarajapuram railway underpasses; Nagawara Junction and Pottery Junction–Nagawara Junction; Jayanthinagar near Banaswadi; Bhattarahalli near KR Puram; Kundalahalli Road’s HSR U-turn; KR Puram railway station; Phoenix Mall and Big Bazaar junctions in Mahadevapura; Binny Mill railway gate on Magadi Road; SM Circle at Jalahalli Cross; Chokkasandra, T Dasarahalli; Hesaraghatta Cross (Eighth Mile); CMTI Junction, Tumakuru Road; Hebbal Junction, Outer Ring Road; NES Junction, Yelahanka; Sadahalli Gate near Chikkajala; K2 bus stop–Hebbal Junction, Sanjaynagar; Bharatiya City Junction, Hennur; Sarakki, JD Mara and Iblur junctions. High-density corridors include Bellary, Old Madras, Old Airport, Sarjapur, Bannerghatta, Kanakapura, Mysuru, Magadi, Tumakuru, West of Chord and Outer Ring roads.

At a Bangalore Mirror community meeting in KSFC Layout on Sunday, residents raised concerns about garbage dumping, road safety, connectivity, delayed projects and poor budget allocation.

Vacant plots are used as dumping grounds despite BBMP cleaning drives; residents called for stricter monitoring and better waste-management infrastructure. The 40-foot-wide Park Road’s slope encourages speeding bikers, some with tampered silencers. Residents said requests for speed breakers had prompted blame-shifting between BBMP and traffic police. Illegal parking narrows roads, and parked vehicles become gathering spots for public drinking. Residents also cited the lack of public toilets and open urination.

Footpath encroachments on Oil Mill Road force pedestrians, including schoolchildren, into traffic. Residents want the dilapidated community hall converted into a public library. Poor connectivity near the Banaswadi railway station underpass forces commuters to use narrow lanes; residents called for a proper link road.
