The Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) announced on April 6 that a Sewerage Treatment Plant will be constructed at Neknampur Lake to address sewage flow in the Manikonda-Neknampur corridor. The Neknampur STP is one of 39 STPs planned in Telangana under the Central government's Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT 2.0) initiative.

WHMWSSB Managing Director Ashok Reddy conducted a site inspection and directed officials to complete soil testing work immediately. The plan involves:

• Diverting sewage from Malkam Cheruvu to Neknampur Ibrahim Cheruvu, treating it at the STP, then releasing to Neknampur Lake
• Constructing trunk sewer mains on both sides of a box drain being built by GHMC for stormwater from Neknampur Cheruvu to Ibrahim Cheruvu
• Redirecting drainage lines from Manikonda, Lanco Hills and Puppalaguda to the STP
• Constructing a tanker filling station within STP premises for treated water use in gardening and construction
• Preparing a detailed project report for laying pipeline along the ORR to supply treated water
• Using treated water for gardening along the ORR and in local parks

Managing Director K Ashok Reddy directed officials to complete soil testing work immediately. Plans include: diverting sewage from Malkam Cheruvu to Neknampur Ibrahim Cheruvu, treating it at the STP, and releasing treated water back into the lake; constructing trunk sewer mains on both sides of the box drain being built by GHMC for stormwater from Neknampur Cheruvu to Ibrahim Cheruvu; redirecting drainage lines from Manikonda, Lanco Hills and Puppalaguda to the STP; constructing a tanker filling station within STP premises for treated water use in gardening and construction; utilizing treated water in local parks; preparing a DPR for laying a pipeline along ORR to supply treated water; and holding discussions with authorities to use treated water for gardening along the ORR.

The Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRAA) has protected 2,700 square yards of government land worth approximately ₹54 crore in Neknampur, preventing encroachment on property earmarked for public use.

The land is part of a 59.14-acre government parcel in Survey No. 31 of Neknampur village, Gandipet mandal, Rangareddy district. The property was allotted to Secretariat employees in 2002, with layout approval by HUDA in 2007. Following plot allocations, residential constructions were completed in the colony.

As per the approved layout, 2,700 square yards were reserved for a park and public amenities. Individuals allegedly attempted to convert this designated public space into residential plots, taking advantage of the uneven, hill-like terrain that delayed park development.

Construction permission was reportedly obtained by showing a plot in Survey No. 22 of adjacent Venkateswara Colony, but construction was undertaken within Secretariat Employees' Colony on land reserved for public use. Foundations, pillars, and slab work preparations had been laid.

Following a complaint from the colony's residents' welfare association through HYDRAA's public grievance mechanism, a joint inspection by HYDRAA officials with municipal and revenue authorities confirmed irregularities. HYDRAA Commissioner A.V. Ranganath directed demolition of unauthorised structures on Wednesday. Temporary sheds on five additional plots that were allegedly carved out and sold earlier were also removed. HYDRAA fenced the 2,700 square yards and installed boards declaring it public space.

The Hyderabad Disaster Response and Assets Monitoring and Protection Agency (HYDRA) protected 23.16 acres of government land in Neknampur, valued at over Rs 2500 crores, from encroachment attempts. The land is located in Survey No. 20, Neknampur village, Gandipet Mandal, Ranga Reddy District, in the IT hub area. Local residents filed complaints about encroachment attempts on the property.

HYDRA Commissioner AV Ranganath ordered a comprehensive field-level investigation involving revenue and municipal officials. After confirming the land's government status, HYDRA removed existing encroachments and demolished unauthorized structures, including watchtowers and temporary sheds. The agency erected protective fencing around the entire 23.16-acre plot and installed boards marking it as government land.

An individual named Mohammed Ibrahim allegedly created fraudulent documents claiming to have purchased the land from Pakala Pochaiah and approached the court seeking passbooks. Revenue officials conducted a field inspection following court orders and confirmed the land's government status. The Narsingi Police Station registered a case against Mohammed Ibrahim for creating fake documents. Members of the Pochaiah family also asserted rights over the land in 2019, despite Ibrahim's alleged documents dating the purchase to 1975.

Local residents demanded the protected area be developed according to city planning regulations with proper allocation for open spaces and green zones.

Forces from the Hyderabad Disaster Response & Asset Protection Agency (HYDRAA) pulled down a wall illegally raised beneath high tension lines in Neknampur on 30 April 2025. About 800 square yards of land was occupied under the high tension lines through construction of sheds, blocking the way between two colonies. The lost link between Venkateshwara Colony and Osmania Colony was re-established.
