Khajaguda corridor flyover and underpass work worsens traffic

Khajaguda corridor improvement project in Cyberabad advancing with Raidurgam Law and Order Police Station on Old Mumbai Highway directed for demolition to build proposed underpass. Adjoining Raidurgam Traffic Police Station partially affected by road widening.

Khajaguda junction carries over 300,000 vehicles daily, including nearly 100,000 during evening peak hours 4-8 p.m. Junction connects Mehdipatnam, Shaikpet, Nanakramguda and Gachibowli.

Construction status: Of 23 proposed piers, 9 foundations and 8 piers completed. Work progressing near junction at Pier 18. When reaching Pier 14 overlapping junction, authorities plan temporary closure with major traffic diversions.

Proposed diversions: Vehicles from Malkam Cheruvu diverted via Chitrapuri Colony and Lanco Hills. Traffic from Shaikpet flyover rerouted via Timber Lake Colony toward Khajaguda village road or ESCI Road.

Current conditions: Three lanes barricaded for flyover works on road median. Shaikpet-Gachibowli carriageway undergoing road widening with temporary 15-20 ft lane created using opposite carriageway. Less than three effective lanes operating with heavy traffic causing 2-3 signal cycles to cross junction.

Completion plans: Corridor will provide 150-ft-wide road including flyover and service roads between Nanakramguda and Shaikpet. Shaikpet-Gachibowli stretch expanding to 215 ft with underpass and service roads.
