Earlier tenders on July 2 and September 6, 2024, received no bids. The government approved direct MHADA redevelopment on May 28, 2025; the tender was published June 16, with bids due July 7.

MHADA’s Mumbai Building Repairs and Reconstruction Board floated Kamathipura redevelopment tenders on June 13 under a cluster scheme. Around 984 families will be rehoused in 450-square-foot carpet-area homes, replacing existing 180-square-foot units. Completion is scheduled within three and a half years; bids are due by 7 July 2025.

Societies appointed a developer in 2010, but prolonged inaction delayed the project. The government cancelled the appointment on 15 December 2020 and directed MHADA to take over; the tripartite agreement was cancelled on 20 June 2022. A cluster redevelopment proposal using a private C&DA was submitted on 2 November 2023, but the government chose implementation under Regulation 33(5). MHADA tenders issued on 2 July and 6 September 2024 drew no responses. A direct-MHADA proposal was submitted on 4 April 2025 and approved on 28 May 2025.
