Mumbai's BMC demolished 234 unauthorised structures in Amar Nagar on June 5 to clear land for the Goregaon-Mulund Link Road infrastructure project.

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) commenced demolition on June 5, 2026, to remove structures affected by the Goregaon-Mulund Link Road (GMLR) project, which aims to improve connectivity between Mumbai's eastern and western suburbs.

234 unauthorised residential and commercial structures in Amar Nagar, Khandipada, were demolished under the encroachment removal programme.

The operation was supervised by Assistant Municipal Commissioner Yogita Kolhe and involved:

  • Nearly 100 municipal employees
  • Heavy machinery: poclain excavators, JCB machines, dumpers
  • Engineers and officials from the Municipal Corporation

The GMLR project is one of Mumbai's significant infrastructure initiatives aimed at reducing travel time and improving east-west connectivity. The demolition forms part of the land-clearing process necessary for timely project implementation, being undertaken in phases.
