More than 150 potholes affect a 5–6 km stretch of the Reay Road–Wadala-Mahul route. Nearly 1 km is closed because the bridge over Kharu Creek was found weak, forcing diversions. The affected roads—from Mallet Road Junction to Victoria Overbridge (Reay Road) and the Wadala-Mahul Road—are under the Mumbai Port Authority (MBPA).

MBPA tolls are ₹40 for cars and three-wheelers, ₹60 for trucks and buses, and ₹90 for trailers. More than 500 heavy vehicles and hundreds of other vehicles use the route daily. Transporters report slower traffic, vehicle-damage and accident risks, increased fuel and repair costs, congestion and longer journeys. The closed section is being used to park cranes and oil tankers, prompting concerns that their weight could further strain the bridge. Maharashtra Transport Action Committee coordinator Raman Khosla said the chairman had assured transporters the road would be repaired before Ganpati immersion; transporters are seeking a permanent solution.

The Reay Road and Titwala road overbridges are scheduled to be inaugurated on May 13, 2025, at 7 pm by Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. Maharashtra Rail Infrastructure Development Corporation (Maharail) constructed the bridge with longer spans to avoid underground utilities; architectural LED lighting was installed. Maharail’s next expected project is the Byculla road overbridge, part of a plan to modernise ageing British-era structures.

Mumbai’s first land-based cable-stayed road overbridge is scheduled for inauguration by Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis at 7 pm on May 13, 2025. The bridge opens to traffic on Wednesday and will be inaugurated alongside a road overbridge at Titwala, about 65 km away.

It has six lanes but no footpaths and is not connected to Reay Road railway station. Pedestrians can access it only from Sant Savta Mali Marg in Byculla East; the bridge reportedly sits nearly seven feet above the station’s heritage building. Railway officials have proposed a foot overbridge with a new ticket counter. A Central Railway official said BMC handled planning; BMC had not responded to queries.

Mumbai is set to unveil its first land-based cable-stayed bridge at Reay Road in South Mumbai. The 383-metre-long Reay Road Road Over Bridge will provide east-west connectivity.
