The flyover at Rakshak Chowk in Pimple Nilakh was opened for vehicular movement on Friday by the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) Civil Engineering Department. The route is now largely signal-free. Opening expected to significantly reduce travel time between Sangvi Phata and Ravet Mukai Chowk and reduce pressure on the BRT corridor. MLA Shankar Jagtap had demanded completion of safety audit and technical inspection; following this, the civic administration completed required procedures and opened the flyover. Executive Engineer Sandhya Wagh stated the flyover will ease congestion and improve connectivity for commuters in Pimple Nilakh and nearby localities. A subway being constructed through defence land near the junction remains under construction and is expected to open in the near future. PCMC Joint City Engineer Prerana Shinkar clarified that the civic body officially opened the bridge on Thursday night, rejecting social media claims that local citizens opened it themselves. Finishing work including road work beneath the flyover and tiling work remains pending. A formal inauguration ceremony may be held after remaining work is completed; decision to be taken by municipal commissioner, mayor and general body.

PCMC is implementing precautionary measures on the under-construction Rakshak Chowk flyover near Pimple Nilakh after a structural safety audit raised concerns over its dangerously steep gradient. Maval MP Shrirang Barne (Shiv Sena) warned that the sharp slope could become an accident trap for motorists once opened. The audit was ordered following Barne's site inspection. He drew parallels with the Madhukar Pavale flyover in Nigdi, where steep gradient has been blamed for frequent accidents. Barne urged the civic administration to revisit the design and suggested an extension of the flyover. PCMC plans to implement speed curbs and rumbler strips as safety measures.

Pune Municipal Commissioner Naval Kishor Ram inspected Katraj-Kondhwa Road and the Katraj Chowk flyover on September 29, 2026. The flyover is expected to be completed by the end of December 2026, and a substantial portion of the service road is complete; traffic was diverted onto the completed section near Rajas Society.

Ten properties excluded from the land acquisition process are needed for the road. Joint measurement is underway; after the area is finalised, owners’ consent will be sought and the land is expected to be available within a month. Ram directed officials to discuss the matter with affected owners. Discussions also covered land from Chidanand Society.

Officials identified electricity poles and transformers obstructing the grade separator; the Electrical Department was directed to remove them immediately. PMC set March 2027 for completing the 50-metre widening and March 2028 for the proposed 84-metre-wide development, with land acquisition and financial provisions to be expedited.
