The Pune Municipal Corporation has initiated construction of a dedicated link ramp connecting the Pashan-Sus flyover directly to the Pune-Mumbai highway service road. Currently, residents travelling from Pashan towards the highway service road must continue to the end of the flyover and take a U-turn, causing traffic queues, fuel wastage, delays during peak hours, and safety concerns from wrong-side driving.

The project will reduce unnecessary travel by nearly two kilometres per commuter. Estimated cost: ₹8.03 crore. Contractor: Shri Associates Infrastructure Limited. Completion deadline: one year.

The area has experienced rapid residential growth and increasing vehicular movement towards Hinjawadi, Baner and the Mumbai-Bengaluru highway. PMC Road Department Executive Engineer Shrikant Gaikwad stated the ramp will improve connectivity, enhance road safety, reduce travel time, and ease congestion for residents of Pashan, Sus and Baner.

The 1.2-km Baner-Pashan Link Road project, approved in 1992 and construction started in 2014, is set to open soon after three decades of delays. Primary obstruction: land acquisition for a critical 200-metre portion. The road connects Baner, Balewadi, and Pashan, easing traffic in these residential and commercial zones.

Baner-Pashan Link Road Welfare Trust petitioned High Court in 2021. April 2025 court directive: complete land acquisition within two months, finish roadwork within four months. Municipal Commissioner Navalkishore Ram deposited Rs 25 crore with district administration for land acquisition.

Road identified as one of 33 'missing links' in city's network and among 12 priority roads targeted for completion this year. Expected to reduce travel time, fuel consumption, and commuter stress once operational.

The service road near the Pashan-Sus flyover has deteriorated significantly due to intense rains, with massive potholes making the stretch nearly impassable in certain sections. The road is frequently used by local residents and office-goers. Poor maintenance has created safety hazards including vehicle breakdowns, tyre damage, skidding two-wheelers, and accidents. A resident reported a minor accident on the stretch. Residents note there is only one alternate route which is longer, forcing continued use of the damaged stretch. Repeated complaints to Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) have not resulted in visible repair work. Residents have escalated the matter to social media, tagging Union Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari, NHAI, and local officials demanding urgent pothole repairs and safe travel conditions.

More than 30 housing societies and complexes in Pune’s Sus Road-Baner area submitted a 19-point charter to candidates contesting the January 15 Pune Municipal Corporation election. Key demands include safer travel, improved public transport, increased daily water supply to reduce reliance on tankers, a police chowky and CCTV network, better garbage management, closure of the waste plant, and development of an “oxygen park.” Sus Baner Vikas Manch president Vinay Deshpande and secretary Haresh Patil said society members discussed and finalised the charter after consultations.

The Supreme Court bench headed by the Chief Justice of India issued contempt notices on September 26 to Pune Municipal Corporation commissioner Naval Kishore Ram, National Environmental Engineering Research Institute director Dr S. Venkata Mohan and Noble Exchange CEO Nuriel Lakshman Pezarkar over alleged violations at the Sus Road garbage processing plant.

Sus Road Baner Vikas Manch, through advocate Satya Muley, filed the petition alleging non-compliance with the Court’s 2024 directions to prevent odour affecting nearby buildings. Residents cite foul smells, hazardous bio-waste spilling into residential areas, lung ailments, chronic headaches and birds dropping food waste and bones at homes. The petition also alleges illegal land use and failure to implement green-cover directions. Muley said the plant processes wet waste from restaurants and eateries across Pune, not just the area. The group seeks relocation of the plant away from the residential zone. PMC and the operator have been accused of failing to take corrective measures.
