Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) expects four to five bridge, flyover and connectivity projects to be completed by December 2026 and open in 2027; one additional bridge is scheduled for completion in March 2027. Projects include:

• The new Sadhu Vaswani Bridge, connecting the Cantonment with Koregaon Park, Yerawada and Nagar Road. Work began under a May 2023 order, gathered pace in June 2024, and is expected to finish in December 2026, with opening in January 2027.
• A ramp connecting the Pashan–Sus flyover to the Bengaluru Highway (NH-48) service road, improving access from Pashan and Sus towards Mumbai and Chandni Chowk; it is expected to open in 2027 after remaining work is completed.
• The Karvenagar–Sun City Bridge over the Mutha River, intended to connect Karvenagar and Sinhagad Road and ease congestion on Narveer Tanaji Malusare Road. The Karvenagar-side road is complete; the Sun City approach is under construction, with opening expected in January 2027.
• The Ghorpadi flyover over the Miraj railway line is about 90% complete. Asphalting, painting, utility shifting and traffic signs are due by October or November 2026; opening is expected in January 2027. It will serve travel between Ghorpadi, Mundhwa, Koregaon Park, Kharadi, the Cantonment and Pune Railway Station.

Pune Municipal Corporation road officials inspected Pashan Circle and the gaothan area to assess conditions and identify land for possible acquisition. Corporators Mayuri Kokate and Ratnamala Satav submitted a traffic-improvement blueprint to the PMC standing committee, seeking funds and faster land acquisition.

Proposals include a grade separator, widening the existing junction, a traffic island and an alternate road between Nimhan Mala and Someshwarwadi. No final administrative approval, funding sanction or construction timeline was established.

IT professional Sandip Desai said queues can stretch up to 1.5 km on either side when a vehicle breaks down or an accident occurs, delaying schoolchildren and officegoers. Residential and commercial growth in Sus and Bavdhan has increased pressure; Sus Road has been widened, while roads in the Pashan belt remain comparatively narrow. Residents Rajesh Nimhan and Vishal Doke said nearby government and defence establishments constrain road expansion. Details on the alternate road’s length, cost, land needs, design and schedule were not provided.

Illegal parking outside the Hanuman temple on Dr Homi Bhabha Road (NDA-Pashan Road), which connects Garware Circle and BHEL, is narrowing the carriageway, causing traffic snarls and making the stretch accident-prone, residents said. Vehicles park on both sides, particularly on Tuesdays and Saturdays, despite ‘no parking’ and ‘no halting’ signs. Drivers entering or exiting the main road must manoeuvre around parked cars. The road is flanked by vital defence establishments, raising security concerns. Police plan action.

At a monthly Sajag Nagrik Manch discussion, former Pune Municipal Corporation chief engineer Vivek Kharewadkar said Pune lacks a concrete plan to expand its traffic network and mainly widens existing roads or repairs them repeatedly. Citizens complained that municipal engineers do not inspect road works, contractors are hard to identify or hold accountable, and officials, including the municipal commissioner, are inaccessible.

Kharewadkar called for a comprehensive road-management system coordinating road design, utility mapping, excavation permissions, reinstatement standards, contractor accountability and maintenance records. He cited waterlogging, asphalt quality, oil leaks from vehicles and weak original road design as causes of deterioration. Roads, he said, should cover at least 15% of Pune’s area; the actual share is below 9%. The report provides no methodology or official source for those figures.

He also said roads proposed in earlier development plans remain incomplete, citing the Pashan-Sus road, pending for around two decades.
