Ravindra Waikar Seeks PMAY Housing Scheme for Aarey Residents

Mumbai MP Ravindra Waikar urged the Union Government to create a PMAY housing scheme for Aarey and forest residents and provide basic services meanwhile.

Ravindra Waikar, Member of Parliament for Mumbai North West, raised the issue in the Lok Sabha under Rule 377 on August 6, 2025, urging the Union Government to create a special Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) scheme for residents of protected forest areas and Aarey Colony, Mumbai. He sought permanent housing for forest-dwellers and Aarey residents, and water, electricity, roads, sanitation, toilets and healthcare until rehabilitation is completed. Waikar highlighted long-standing informal settlements and lack of essential services in Aarey Colony, Sanjay Gandhi National Park and Appa Pada, noting that many residents belong to tribal communities.
