On July 5, the India Meteorological Department issued a red alert for Mumbai and Raigad district due to heavy rainfall since Saturday night. Mumbai recorded more than 250-300 mm of rainfall in the last 23 hours in some city areas. IMD forecast moderate to intense spells of rain across the regions.

Other monsoon impacts include a building balcony collapse in Belapur village, Navi Mumbai, in a severely dilapidated state. Waterlogging occurred in several parts of Thane city. Western Railway suburban network recorded precipitation exceeding 250 mm since Saturday night, with some regions receiving 150-200 mm, but train operations continued uninterrupted.

In Ghatkopar, a car was crushed after a giant tree uprooted in Vikrant Circle early morning. BMC was informed about the tree but took no action. Four vehicles were damaged with no casualties reported.

An NCP (SP) MLA noted a recurring annual issue of people falling into open manholes due to lack of proper maintenance. BMC has approximately Rs 81,000 crore budget with about Rs 250 crore spent on pre-monsoon preparations addressing manholes, drains and trees.

Fire started around 4:30 pm in two interconnected flats (Nos. 0271 and 0272) on the seventh floor of ground-plus-seven-storey Kohinoor City building on Peter Perera Road, Vidyavihar West. Affected premises covered approximately 3,000 sq ft. Three women and two minors safely evacuated via staircase. Fire confined to electrical wiring and installations, wooden furniture, doors, windows, household articles, documents, and split AC units. Brought under control by 6:22 pm, fully extinguished by 6:53 pm. Investigation to determine exact cause. No injuries reported.
