On 14th June in the year 1896, in the village ‘Hingne’ near Pune city, Maharshi Karve started a “Home for Widows”, along with a school for widows, so that they become educated and self-reliant. The Institution was named as “Hingne Stree Shikshan Samstha”. Later, the institution was renamed as “Maharshi Karve Stree Shikshan Samstha”. The name Karve nagar is known from this historic development.
You will find renowned educational institutes like Cummins Girls College, MIT College. Well known schools such as Sevasadan English Medium School, Karnatak High school, Abhinav Vidyalaya, and many more. Developed as residential area with mixed community. Karvenagar area flourished with spacious schemes developed by all major builders in Pune.
