Pune Municipal Corporation is preparing to invite tenders for a proposed tunnel connecting Hingne on Sinhagad Road with Dhankawadi on Satara Road, intended to shorten travel time between Sinhagad and Satara roads.

Construction debris and soil partially block the canal road between Hingne Khurd and Dandekar Bridge in Pune, despite residents saying no construction is underway there. Dumpers parked on the narrow road add to congestion after commuters shifted from frequently jammed Sinhagad Road. Mud and uneven surfaces have caused minor accidents, particularly endangering two-wheeler riders, schoolchildren and senior citizens. Residents say repeated complaints to the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) helpline have brought no action.

Mutha Canal Sub-Divisional Officer Mohan Bhadane said the stretch falls under PMC jurisdiction, while PMC Sinhagad Road Regional Office Senior Health Inspector Mangaldas Mane said the Irrigation Department is responsible. Residents also report temporary sheds and storage areas encroaching on open spaces along the canal. They have called for debris removal, clearance of encroachments and fines for the responsible builders.

Pune’s 1.5-km Wadgaon-to-Hingne Chowk flyover, inaugurated by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Monday, September 1, opened to commuters the next day. The route, which previously took 15–20 minutes, now takes around five minutes; Narhe resident Nilesh Paigude said he travelled from Wadgaon Budruk to DP Road–Mhatre Bridge in under 10 minutes without stopping at five junctions.

Commuters reported disorder near Hingne Chowk (Inamdar Chowk), where banned U-turns and right turns were being made, and said the turn to the adjacent service road at the Wadgaon end was too sharp. They called for traffic police or wardens to manage both ends and prevent accidents.

Pune Municipal Corporation officials said they would monitor traffic for several days and make necessary changes. Signboards are in place; footpaths will be redesigned and power utilities removed. This is the third flyover opened on Sinhagad Road in the past 18 months.

MSEDCL maintenance at the Vadgaon water treatment plant will temporarily halt operations from 12 noon to 2 PM on July 31, 2025, causing low water pressure in Hingne, Dhayari, Katraj, Ambegaon, Anandnagar, Vadgaon and surrounding areas. Other affected localities include Dattnagar, Dhanakwadi, Bharati Vidyapeeth campus, Kondhwa Budruk, Ambegaon Khurd and Budruk, Yewalewadi, Sahakarnagar (Part 2), Ambedkarnagar, Tilaknagar and the area near Date bus stop. Santosh Nagar, Satchaimata Tank area, Sunda Mata Nagar, Wonder City, Morebag, Balajinagar, Kedareshwar Tank area, both sectors of Sukh Sagar Nagar, and parts of old wards 38 and 41 may also face reduced pressure. Pune Municipal Corporation advised residents to conserve water and store it in advance if needed.

The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) standing committee approved an estimated ₹2,634 crore to acquire nearly 4.98 lakh square metres across 15 locations for the high-capacity mass transit route (HCMTR): Bopodi, Aundh, Bhamburda, Erandwane, Kothrud, Hingne, Parvati, Munjeri, Wanawadi, Hadapsar, Mundhwa, Vadgaonsheri, Lohegaon, Yerawada and Dhanori.

The decision followed a review chaired by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis to expedite the HCMTR and inner ring road. At an August 28 meeting, the PMC was directed to submit acquisition proposals by August 31; it has forwarded them to the district collector’s office.

Acquisition will follow the Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement Act, 2013, and Section 126 of the Maharashtra Regional and Town Planning Act, 1966. Although the 2013 law generally requires a 30% compensation deposit before a Section 19 notification, the collector directed the PMC to deposit the full amount at the final award stage.

The PMC will bear acquisition costs within its jurisdiction. Three financial experts will help structure funding, loans, fundraising and repayment, and assess viability gap funding and land monetisation.
