Pune Municipal Corporation will suspend water supply from midnight Wednesday through Thursday, September 10, for electrical, pumping and civil maintenance at the Parvati water-treatment centre, Bhama Askhed jackwell, Warje water-treatment centre and other facilities. Department head Nandkishor Jagtap appealed to residents to cooperate. Supply may resume late and at reduced pressure on Friday, September 11; residents were asked to plan for the disruption before Ganeshotsav.

Affected systems and areas include: Parvati HLR—Sahakarnagar, Padmavati, Bibwewadi, Kondhwa Khurd and adjoining neighbourhoods; SNDT—Gokhalenagar, Aundh, Bopodi, Pune University, Law College Road, parts of Baner Road and Warje; Bhama Askhed—Kalas-Dhanori, Lohegaon, Viman Nagar, Kharadi, Yerawada and Alandi; Pancard Club—Baner, Balewadi, parts of Karvenagar and Warje; Chandni Chowk—Pashan, Bavdhan, Kothrud and adjoining areas; Cantonment—NIBM, Wanowrie, Salunke Vihar and Kondhwa Gaothan; Vadgaon—Katraj, Dhankawadi, Sinhagad Road and Dhayari. Alandi Municipal Council and adjoining areas outside Pune are also affected.

The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) plans to repair city potholes within a week, with the municipal commissioner personally monitoring work. Standing committee chairman Shrinath Bhimale urged officials to prioritise safety and use experienced contractors. The PMC is considering assistance for the family of a 10-year-old boy killed in an accident on Sus-Mhalunge Road, subject to a group leaders’ meeting and Supreme Court directions.

The standing committee approved two batch-mix asphalt plants at Shindewadi with combined capacity of 160 tonnes per hour, costing ₹8.90 crore. Parker Plant India Pvt Ltd was selected through a B-2 tender. The facility will occupy about 5.36 acres (21,700 sq m) of civic land at Shindewadi octroi naka, currently used by PMPML for scrap storage. It will ease pressure on Yerawada’s 120-TPH plant, operating since 2016 and producing 7 lakh–7.5 lakh metric tonnes. The new plant will serve Katraj, Gujarwadi, Kolewadi, Undri, Bibvewadi, Kondhwa-Yewalewadi, Dhankawadi, Sinhagad Road, Warje-Karvenagar and newly merged southern areas.

Pavetech Consulting Engineering Services will assess 136 km of roads and footpaths for the January 2027 Pune Grand Tour, using technical and automated surveys and GIS-based maintenance reports. Its fee is 1.5% of actual works expenditure across packages one to four; 5% of its post-tender fee is payable after the defect liability period. Contractor and consultant payments will be staged over three years, with contractors receiving 10% of dues each year.

The Pune-Satara Road Bus Rapid Transit corridor is being removed to make way for the Swargate-Katraj underground Metro project. Work has begun, with Shahu Colony-Natubaug BRT Station dismantled. Metro tunnels will be constructed directly beneath the main road; existing BRT stations occupy critical space needed for underground stations and entry-exit points.

The upcoming Metro stretch will include five stations: Market Yard, Bibwewadi, Padmavati, Balaji Nagar, and Katraj. Among these, Bibwewadi, Padmavati, and Balaji Nagar fall along the current BRT corridor, so at least three BRT stations will be removed in phases to reduce commuter inconvenience.

Additional Commissioner of Police (East) Manoj Patil said that once Metro work picks up pace, a large portion of Satara Road will be taken over for construction, with traffic planning adjusted accordingly.

The Satara Road corridor is currently the only functional BRT stretch left in Pune. Several BRT routes have already been scrapped: Swargate–Hadapsar route and Yerwada–Wagholi (Aaple Ghar) corridor. Fresh demands exist to remove the BRT route between Deccan College and Vishrantwadi.

Some BRT sections on Satara Road will remain operational at Panchami, Bhapkar Petrol Pump (City Pride), Shankar Maharaj Math, and Bharati Vidyapeeth. Running BRT services in disconnected segments is expected to be difficult for drivers and confusing for passengers. The Metro project is targeted for completion by December 2029.

Maharashtra has approved Bibwewadi and Balaji Nagar stations on Pune Metro’s 5.46-km, fully underground Katraj–Swargate extension of the Purple Line. The project was approved in 2024, and Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually laid its foundation stone. The original plan included Market Yard (Gultekdi), Padmavati and Katraj stations; the two additions followed public demand. Work was delayed by re-tendering and approval processes related to the added stations, but is expected to begin soon, possibly by the end of 2025. The extension will connect Katraj with Swargate, a transit hub serving metro, PMPML and MSRTC buses. The completed Purple Line will connect Katraj in Pune with Nigdi in Pimpri-Chinchwad and link the Katraj and Bhakti-Shakti PMPML depots.

Height barriers, heavy-vehicle restrictions and temporary traffic police deployment were introduced at accident-prone Ganga Dham Chowk in Pune’s Bibwewadi after a June 11 crash killed a 29-year-old woman riding pillion and seriously injured her father-in-law.

Residents say trucks are exploiting a gap near the barrier, taking a diagonal route on the wrong side of the road and endangering oncoming traffic, pedestrians and two-wheeler riders. Atul Jain raised the concern; Rajesh Padwal called the loophole dangerous, while commuter Pooja Shah said wrong-way trucks are frightening during peak hours, particularly for children and senior citizens.

Residents are seeking closure or redesign of the gap, traffic police deployment during peak hours, strict fines for violations, and surveillance cameras if continuous police presence is not feasible.
