PMC Fire Brigade conducted inspections across Pune directed by Municipal Commissioner Naval Kishore Ram, with Chief Fire Officer Ganesh Sonune leading. In Wadgaon Budruk, Narhe and Dhayari on Sunday, 13 PGs and 7 scrap-material shops and godowns were found operating without mandatory permissions and safety measures and ordered shut.

Officials found establishments storing large quantities of plastic, paper, steel, iron scrap, sacks and other inflammable materials without adequate fire-safety equipment and firefighting arrangements. Several operated from rented premises without proper permissions.

On Saturday: 36 establishments inspected across Shivajinagar, Navi Peth and Lohegaon, including 21 PGs and hostels, 13 coaching classes, a study centre and a fitness gym. Notices issued for violations of fire safety norms, BDP zones, road width, firefighting systems, authorised electricity supply, drainage and property tax requirements.

On Friday: 11 PG hostels in Lohegaon and Nimbalkar Nagar sealed for failing to meet fire safety requirements and lacking building permissions, drainage and water clearances, structural audit reports, tax records and fire NOCs.

CFO Sonune stated establishments failing to comply would face closure and legal proceedings. PMC drive will continue covering PGs, student accommodation, coaching classes and hospitals. Educational institutions warned against referring students to unauthorised or unsafe premises.

NHAI, Pune Municipal Corporation and Reliance officials jointly inspected the service road between Navale Chowk and Bhumkar Chowk amid complaints of poor conditions, encroachments, illegal parking and traffic congestion. Corporator Haridas Charwad gave officials 15 days to start work, warning of a sit-in at Navale Bridge or Veer Baji Pasalkar Chowk if they do not.

Demands include connecting the service road near Narhe crematorium to the highway and extending a parallel road to Bhumkar Chowk, with retaining walls and exits where needed. Officials said work on the proposed underpass at Bhumkar Chowk would be expedited; its technical review is complete and it is about 15 metres wide. Further underpasses or lanes were also sought.

Other demands include removing encroachments at Navale Chowk, widening the road near Aashirwad Hotel by removing an unnecessary storm drain within 15 days, and preparing a new traffic plan at Vishwas Hotel Chowk by next Thursday. Road widening under Veer Baji Pasalkar Chowk bridge, separate parking near Vadgaon Budruk crematorium, and planned parking for passenger vehicles were also sought.

Chief minister Devendra Fadnavis inaugurated the newly constructed Chandan Nagar Police Station and an Integrated Command and Control Centre. He approved five police stations in Lohgaon, Laxminagar, Narhe, Manjri and Yewalewadi, sanctioned 1,000 additional personnel and said two deputy commissioner of police posts would soon be approved. He said seven new stations had been sanctioned for one city for the first time in Maharashtra’s history.

The city’s AI-powered CCTV system will support crime analysis, traffic management and public safety. Monitoring will start at Bopdev Ghat and extend to 22 other hill zones; camera faults will trigger instant alerts, with repairs promised within 24 hours. Five surveillance vans equipped with drones and public-address systems were inducted.

A satellite-based Integrated Traffic Management System will link traffic signals. A 10-year mobility and infrastructure masterplan for Pune, Pimpri Chinchwad and PMRDA areas will be refined through public feedback. Specialised narcotics and forensic units are being developed. Ajit Pawar announced ₹1,100 crore—5% of the state’s annual plan—for police modernisation; a new police structural framework was established after 60 years.

Heavy rain in Dhayari village and DSK Vishwa caused an overflowing drain at Barangane Mala to send sewage into a well, the locality’s main water source. Around 2 to 2.5 feet of dirty water collected around the well and entered it. Pune Municipal Corporation testing found harmful bacteria; the water supply was stopped, and residents were warned of a shortage for at least two days while the well is cleaned. The corporation began pumping out contaminated water and deployed tankers, which residents—especially in DSK Vishwa—said were insufficient. Water supply department head Nandkishore Jagtap said the well would be thoroughly cleaned before service resumed. Reports linked contaminated water to Guillain-Barré Syndrome cases and some fatalities in Dhayari, DSK Vishwa, Kirkatwadi, Narhe and Nanded. NCP’s Rahul Pokale said his complaint prompted action and called for more tankers.

• Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) plans a new bridge between Shivane and Nanded City; its project department has floated a tender to appoint a consultant for ground assessment and pre- and post-tender work. The existing bridge is low-lying and often submerges during the monsoon. Pune has 22 bridges across the Mula-Mutha river; the proposed bridge would add to that number.
• The Suncity–Karvenagar bridge, whose construction began in January 2024, is over 50% complete. It is expected to ease congestion in Karvenagar and Sinhagad Road.
• Dhayari-area congestion affects Dhayari Village Road, Dhayari–Narhe Road, Nanded Phata–Nanded City Gate and Lagad Mala–Dhayari Phata. Four DP roads planned for Dhayari 28 years ago remain largely undeveloped. President Droupadi Murmu recently directed the state Chief Secretary to act on the pending roads.
