The proposed Khadakwasla-Hadapsar-Kharadi Metro corridor is undergoing survey and route-alignment work. Pune Metro officials met residents in Kolhewadi to explain the proposed route and address community concerns.

Kolhewadi is currently proposed as the starting station. However, residents have demanded that the main Metro station and car shed be developed beyond the gas shed at Khadakwasla instead, arguing this would improve connectivity for residents and visitors and encourage commercial activity and tourism-related businesses.

Pune Metro officials responded positively to the suggestion and said the demand would be communicated to senior authorities for consideration. Final decision depends on further planning and approval.

Local representatives have also sought a flyover between Kolhewadi and Nanded Phata, running alongside the proposed Metro pillars, to address growing traffic pressure in areas including Nanded, Kirkatwadi, Nandoshi and Kolhewadi.

Pune Municipal Corporation’s General Body approved declaring its intention to prepare a Development Plan for 23 villages merged into the city in June 2021, and appointed City Engineer Aniruddha Pavaskar as planning officer. PMRDA’s earlier draft faced complaints over agricultural land being designated for housing and reservations allegedly benefiting large developers; the state government ordered it cancelled and assigned a fresh plan to PMC. The Development Plan Cell will survey existing land use and plan for population growth and infrastructure needs over the next 20 years. The draft will be published for objections and suggestions; a state-appointed committee will hear stakeholders before a revised proposal goes to the PMC General Body and then the state for final sanction and notification. Officials expect a shorter-than-usual timeline, despite local bodies generally having two years to prepare a draft, because PMRDA completed substantial groundwork. Villages: Mhalunge, Sus, Bavdhan Budruk, Kirkatwadi, Pisoli, Kondhave Dhawade, Kopre, Nanded, Khadakwasla, Manjari Budruk, Narhe, Holkarwadi, Autad Handewadi, Wadachiwadi, Shewalewadi, Nandoshi, Sanasnagar, Mangadewadi, Bhilarewadi, Nimbalkarwadi, Jambhulwadi, Kolhewadi and Wagholi.

Heavy rain in Dhayari village and DSK Vishwa caused an overflowing drain at Barangane Mala to send sewage into a well, the locality’s main water source. Around 2 to 2.5 feet of dirty water collected around the well and entered it. Pune Municipal Corporation testing found harmful bacteria; the water supply was stopped, and residents were warned of a shortage for at least two days while the well is cleaned. The corporation began pumping out contaminated water and deployed tankers, which residents—especially in DSK Vishwa—said were insufficient. Water supply department head Nandkishore Jagtap said the well would be thoroughly cleaned before service resumed. Reports linked contaminated water to Guillain-Barré Syndrome cases and some fatalities in Dhayari, DSK Vishwa, Kirkatwadi, Narhe and Nanded. NCP’s Rahul Pokale said his complaint prompted action and called for more tankers.

In early January 2025, gastrointestinal illness cases spike in DSK Vishwa, a nine-society township in Dhayari, western Pune. Patients later diagnosed with Guillain-Barré syndrome (GBS), a rare autoimmune disorder causing temporary or lifelong paralysis. One resident, Pravin Vibhute (40), died on January 26 – first of five GBS deaths in Maharashtra since early January.

By February 6: 173 suspected GBS cases in and around Pune – 34 from Pune Municipal Corporation, 87 from nearby villages, 22 from Pimpri Chinchwad, remainder from rural regions. At least 55 patients in intensive care, 21 on ventilator support. In last seven days, 18 new cases detected.

State health officials trace outbreak to bacterial and viral infections; bacteria campylobacter jejuni spreads through contaminated water. Stool samples show multiple pathogens: norovirus in 21 patients, campylobacter jejuni in four, Epstein-Barr virus in one.

Water source: large well at Nanded Phata along Mutha river supplies DSK Vishwa township and three villages (Nanded, Kirkatwadi, Dhayari). State health minister states 80% of reported cases from areas around this well. Water from well receives only chlorination, no filtration or purification before supply. Well managed first by gram panchayat, later transferred to Pune Municipal Corporation.

Three villages reported at least 63 GBS cases total. Residents complained of water supplied without adequate chlorination and filtration. DSK Vishwa residents held "janata durbar" on February 2 to discuss restarting their filtration plant. Residents criticized PMC for failing to provide civic amenities despite paying taxes; noted no corporators available to communicate with since municipal elections not held since terms expired 2020–2023 (PMC term ended March 2022).

Residents of Pune’s 32 merged villages have sought property tax rebates, citing poor water supply, roads, electric poles and garbage collection. Some refused to sign tax consent forms. Maharashtra ordered the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) to pause collection after the Model Code of Conduct came into force. PMC is expected to issue revised bills; its charges had been double those of the former gram panchayats. Collection was also paused before the Lok Sabha polls.

The state merged 11 villages into PMC in 2017 and 23 in 2021, making 34; Phursungi and Uruli Devachi were later excluded. The 32 areas are Mhalunge, Sus, Bavdhan, Kirkatwadi, Pisoli, remaining parts of Lohegaon, Kondhwe-Dhawade, Kopre, Nanded, Khadakwasla, Shivane, remaining parts of Hadapsar, Mundhwa (remaining parts of Keshavnagar), Manjari, Narhe, Ambegaon (Budruk), Undri, Dhayari, Ambegaon (Khurd), Mantarwadi, Holkarwadi, Handewadi, Wadachiwadi, Shewalewadi, Yewalewadi, Nandoshi, Mangdewadi, Bhilarewadi, Gujar Nimbalkarwadi, Jambhulwadi and Kolewadi.
