Residents' Welfare Association alleged DDA and MCD increasingly allow private builders to construct luxury towers in fragile ecological belts. RWA president stated protest aims to preserve the ridge and assert citizens' right to clean air.

The Delhi Development Authority (DDA) is set to auction 118 premium residential plots in Sector D-6 of Vasant Kunj, South Delhi. The DDA has initiated a tender to appoint an agency for plot demarcation and infrastructure development with an estimated cost of Rs 7.5 crore, borne by DDA and not charged directly to buyers.

Development timeline:

Infrastructure scope: roads, stormwater drainage, sewerage, water supply networks.

Delhi’s Public Works Department (PWD) approved ₹1.97 crore for a feasibility study of a proposed elevated road along the roughly 4-km Aruna Asaf Ali Marg. Preliminary ground work can begin once funds are formally disbursed. The route links Mehrauli-Mahipalpur Road to the Outer Ring Road through Vasant Kunj, Kishangarh and the Qutub Institutional Area, and provides access to Jawaharlal Nehru University, the International Centre for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology, the Inter-University Accelerator Centre and the Indian Council of Social Science Research. The study will assess technical specifications, finances, traffic flow and environmental impacts.

The project is part of a Delhi government plan to redevelop five high-density routes as dust-free, green, pedestrian-accessible model corridors. The routes are Minto Road–Aruna Asaf Ali Marg–Jawaharlal Nehru Marg–Delhi Gate; Netaji Subhash Marg–Shanti Van–Mahatma Gandhi Marg (Yamuna riverfront)–ITO–IP Estate Metro Station; Dhaula Kuan–Jail Road; Cariappa Marg–Tilak Nagar Roundabout; and Najafgarh Road from Uttam Nagar–Tilak Nagar to Rajouri Garden. Plans include 24-hour activity, dust control, green cover, pedestrian paths, recreational amenities and storm-water drainage to prevent waterlogging.
