Reliance Jio began dismantling a mobile tower installed in 2013 on a Umerkhadi building housing a nursery, following a Bombay High Court order.

Reliance Jio Infratel Pvt Ltd began dismantling a mobile tower installed in 2013 on the terrace of the seven-storeyed Qasr-e-Amin Building in Umerkhadi, which also houses a nursery school. Residents’ association petitioners alleged the tower was erected without proper approvals, using forged documents, and without consent from the tenants’ body or the trust managing the building. The tower was initially authorised by one resident and later taken over by Reliance Jio.

On October 9, a Bombay High Court bench of Justices Ajey Gadkari and Kamal Khata ordered its removal. Reliance Jio assured the court it would remove the tower and equipment within a week. On October 19, it said 90% of the installations had been removed. The court directed the BMC to oversee removal and JJ Marg police to provide protection if required; compliance was to be reviewed later that week.

The petition cited revised draft city guidelines issued in January 2013 requiring at least 70% consent from cooperative housing society members and prohibiting towers at schools and several other listed institutions.
