A 2BHK flat in Tardeo, Mumbai, listed for ₹6.5 crore, has around 900 sq ft of carpet area, an attached balcony with city and sea views, and dedicated surface or podium parking. Its listing video stated “Vegetarian Only,” drawing criticism, including from Shinde Sena youth leader Gurjyot Singh Keer. The video was later deleted.

Real estate agent Bhavesh Kaware apologised and said the restriction was the owner’s criterion; he described the owners as Warkaris and vegetarians. Kaware said his video had been misinterpreted, adding that he is vegetarian and had avoided mentioning non-vegetarian dishes because it was Shravan. He said he did not intend to hurt non-vegetarians. He also cited Malkaris, Warkaris and Brahmins among vegetarian communities in Maharashtra.

Mumbai broker Bhavesh Kaware promoted a 2 BHK flat in Tardeo through an Instagram reel, saying only vegetarian buyers would be considered. The flat was priced at ₹6.5 crore and had around 900 sq ft of carpet area. The advertisement drew criticism on social media and objections from Shiv Sena (UBT) and Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) leaders.

Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Kishori Pednekar accused Kaware of speaking in the builder’s interest and said he would be traced and action taken. MP Sanjay Raut called for action and speculated that a major developer might be behind the property, mentioning Lodha as a possibility. MNS leader Yashwant Killedar said the party would respond “in MNS style.”

Similar allegations of housing discrimination based on food preferences have been reported in Ghatkopar, Mulund and Chandivali. Actors Saif Ali Khan and Emraan Hashmi had previously spoken about housing difficulties in Mumbai, in 2012 and 2014 respectively. No new Mumbai law was reported.

The Bombay High Court asked owners of flats on floors 17–34 of Willingdon View, a 34-storey Tardeo building, to clarify by July 3 whether they intend to continue occupying them. The building has a partial occupancy certificate (OC) issued in 2006 for ground-plus-16 floors, but the court questioned whether it was valid because its conditions were unmet. The building has no fire NOC, and the court cited fire-safety lapses and unauthorised changes to approved plans, including removing part of the slab between floors 26 and 27 to create a duplex. Residents without an OC were told they remain at their own risk, including in the event of fire.

The court directed the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) to clarify whether any part has a valid OC, what action it would take if none exists, and why the building receives water and electricity. Construction began in 1990; residents began moving in from 2008. Fifty of the building’s 62 flats are occupied. The petitions concern Willingdon View Cooperative Housing Society, built by Satellite Holdings.
