Nair Dental College Seeks More BMC Land for Student Housing

Nair Dental College has sought another BMC land parcel because its Haji Ali hostel will house only about 110 of at least 450 students.

Nair Dental Hospital and College has sought another land parcel from the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) to address its hostel shortage. The sanctioned hostel near Haji Ali in Worli will accommodate around 110 students, against a student strength of at least 450. The under-construction building is expected to be handed over by the BMC by the end of March 2027, but only six floors have been constructed so far, prompting the dean to question whether the deadline can be met. The dean said accommodating some postgraduate students in the hospital building would be possible and useful during emergencies, but housing 450 students there would not be feasible.

Mumbai Coastal Road Access Link to Nepean Sea Road Stalled

After first phase of MCRP launch from Marine Drive to Worli end of Bandra-Worli Sea Link, Breach Candy residents reported increased traffic congestion. Resident Nigum Lakhani wrote to Prime Minister's Office in August 2025 about delayed demand for additional exit from Nepean Sea Road. After seven months, BMC reply stated Municipal Commissioner wrote December 26, 2025 to Additional Chief Secretary, PWD requesting handover of 10.5 m-wide land strip from Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation to Coastal Road Department. Land required to construct access road along Embassy Apartments within MSRDC plot at Nepean Sea Road. Proposed road will allow exit from Coastal Road to Nepean Sea Road and public access to green space/promenade. No response received to date from Additional Chief Secretary (PWD) or VC & MD, MSRDC.

Earlier plans proposed entry and exit near Priyadarshini Park where tunnel would connect to Nepean Sea Road via reclaimed land. Seven alternative designs reviewed by consultant and submitted to Maharashtra Coastal Zone Management Authority. Option 7 finalised based on technical recommendations, providing interchanges only at Amarsons Garden, Haji Ali and Worli from Bhulabhai Desai Marg, serving Kalbadevi, Girgaon, Bhuleshwar, Malabar Hill and Kemps Corner.
