Pestom Sagar residents say encroachments, illegal businesses and a deteriorating bridge are threatening traffic and pedestrian safety despite repeated complaints to the BMC.

Residents of Pestom Sagar and adjoining Chembur areas say unauthorized slums, unlicensed garages and garbage-segregation businesses on Roads 2 and 6 disrupt traffic and public safety. Encroachments have blocked footpaths on Roads 4 and 6, including near Holy Family School, endangering pedestrians and students at two nearby schools.

The bridge linking Pestom Sagar with Garodia Nagar, Ghatkopar, connects Chembur M West Ward and Ghatkopar N Ward and needs repairs. Residents say repeated complaints to the BMC and discussions with a guardian minister have brought no substantial action.

A large plot near Pestom Sagar’s entrance has been the subject of legal battles between a builder and the Salt Commission since 1978. Residents say the land, originally promised for a public garden, is being used for unauthorized commercial activity. A seven-foot wall was built around it on Road 4, but the site remains undeveloped. Residents proposed a garden, playground or Miyawaki forest and continue to urge authorities to act.
