The Uttar Pradesh government suspended three senior GNIDA officials: General Manager R K Dev, Manager K M Chaudhary, and Senior Draftsman Suresh Kumar (now assistant manager) for a faulty 2023 residential plot scheme in Patwari village.

GNIDA began acquiring land in 2008 but legally acquired only 1,600 of 9,600 square meters. In 2023, it issued allotment letters to five buyers for the full 9,600 square meters, including unacquired land from farmers.

Buyers paid in full but discovered 80 per cent of their plots were not legally owned by GNIDA. Two buyers approached the Allahabad High Court in January 2025. The court criticised GNIDA's conduct as "misrepresentation and deceit" and "arbitrary and reckless".

GNIDA proposed refunding buyers with 4 per cent interest, but the court rejected this as unclear and unfair. Internal inquiry found 11 officials responsible; three were identified as directly culpable in designing and approving the scheme.

State Industrial Development Minister Nand Gopal Gupta Nandi said the three were "prima facie guilty of not discharging their duties with full devotion, demonstrating negligence" and that more action would follow if other officials were found guilty.

GNIDA now offers alternative plots to affected buyers who return their previous allotments.
