Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin inaugurated the J. Anbazhagan Flyover on September 30, 2025. It connects South Usman Road with CIT Nagar Main Road in T. Nagar; traffic congestion eased after opening.
More than 200 motorcycle parking slots opened along Usman Road, from Burkit Road junction to Sarojini Street. The Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) and Traffic Police allow motorcycles only; cars cannot park there. Wider pedestrian spaces were created near the Usman Road–Ranganathan Street junction.
Residents have sought revival of the Chennai Corporation’s 2012–13 budget proposal to link the North and South Usman Road flyovers. The extension would increase the structure from 2 km to 5.5 km. Residents and traders had opposed it over land-acquisition concerns; officials say improved ramp design could avoid acquisition and advanced technology could complete the project in six months.
Residents also raised concerns about bus stops, routes and lingering congestion on Burkit and Madley roads, and requested that GCC and Metrowater resolve sewage issues reportedly linked to infrastructure projects.
