A 15-day U-turn diversion trial began at Kamta Tiraha on Saturday, with the first working day on Monday. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Raveena Tyagi supervised on-ground intervention. Morning traffic showed improvement, but evening jams stretched up to 3 km on Ayodhya Road with vehicles crawling until 9 pm.

The junction receives traffic from six directions, creating a complex choke point. The trial enforces designated U-turns with strict no-parking and no-stoppage rules within 100–150 metres of the junction. The plan aims to create a zero-conflict zone where vehicles do not clash and keep moving.

Route diversions:

• Traffic from Chinhat towards Polytechnic, high court, and Dr Ram Manohar Lohia Institute of Medical Sciences diverted via Vijaipur service road and underpass
• Vehicles to Gomti Nagar and Ahimamau routed through Shaheed Path
• Polytechnic traffic takes U-turn at third underpass near Kamta towards Shaheed Path
• Polytechnic to high court and RMLIMS via free right turn and U-turn
• Buses from Barabanki, Ayodhya, Gorakhpur via Vijaipur underpass, Kathauta, Chinhat route
• Chinhat to Polytechnic diverted via GS Lawn or mini stadium cut towards Kamta flyover

Trial will be reviewed daily with adjustments likely. Support from other departments for permanent infrastructure such as directional signage may be sought if trial shows consistent improvement. High Court PIL hearing on April 16 noted authorities had failed to find lasting solution to corridor congestion.

Lucknow bench of Allahabad high court sought answers on traffic snarls from Polytechnic to Kisan Path. Police implemented U-turn-based traffic management at Kamta crossing on Faizabad Road, one of busiest intersections where Shaheed Path begins. May 1 hearing scheduled with deputy commissioner of police (traffic) Raveena Tyagi, DCP (east) Diksha Sharma and municipal corporation official to appear after inspecting stretch.

High court observed April 16 that despite multiple proceedings, authorities failed to find lasting solution to congestion on busy corridor including high court premises.

New state-of-the-art bus station coming to Kamta, Lucknow by end of March 2026. 75% of work already completed.

Station will serve as regional training centre for bus drivers, conductors and workshop staff for Lucknow. Intended as model station for others in the city.

UPMRC and the Lucknow Development Authority have sent the Uttar Pradesh government a proposal to extend the North-South corridor from Chaudhary Charan Singh Airport–Munshipulia to Barabanki via Ayodhya Road, Matiyari and Anaura Kala. The survey report has been submitted; the proposal has in-principle government approval, but DPR preparation and formal approval are pending.

A UPMRC survey envisages nearly 150 km of metro network over the coming decade, through 7–10 corridors. Ayodhya Road and Charbagh–PGI were identified as the busiest and most viable routes for early expansion. The extension aims to serve daily travel between Lucknow and Barabanki for jobs, education, healthcare and business, reduce congestion and travel times, and improve access to residential and commercial growth areas. Proposed station facilities include parking, e-cycle and e-bike rentals, last-mile electric mobility and improved access. The project could support housing, rental, retail and mixed-use demand near Kamta, Matiyari and Anaura Kala. The project remains at survey and proposal stage; DPRs would determine alignments, stations, costs, ridership and funding.
