Hyderabad’s MMTS, run by South Central Railway with the Telangana government since 2003, serves Hyderabad and Secunderabad on three core corridors, with Medchal and Umdanagar extensions. It has around 29 stations on the core network, plus stations on the extensions. Services run roughly 4:30 am–12:30 am; check NTES or South Central Railway for revised schedules.

Minimum fares are around ₹5; First Class fares start at about ₹25. First Class suburban fares were rationalised, roughly halving single-journey fares. Season tickets are available; passengers must carry photo ID with the pass. RailOne is the official ticketing app after UTS was discontinued in March 2026. R-Wallet balances carry over when users register with the same mobile number; wallet payments earn a discount on unreserved tickets.

MMTS and Hyderabad Metro tickets are not interchangeable. Interchange options include Secunderabad, Begumpet and the Hitech City area. Hitech City and Hafeezpet serve the IT corridor; Lingampally is the western terminus, while Hyderabad (Nampally) serves the central city and Kacheguda connects to southern long-distance services. The western section is busiest during peak hours; frequency drops off-peak, and monsoon delays may occur.

GHMC has proposed two projects to ease traffic on the Begumpet–Sardar Patel Road corridor and improve vehicle flow from Panjagutta flyover to Rasoolpura via Begumpet and Prakashnagar.

• A ₹150-crore, approximately 850-metre Y-shaped flyover near the Hyderabad Metro Rail Limited office in Rasoolpura will split into a three-lane arm towards Minister’s Road and a two-lane arm towards Patigadda Road. It is described as a four-lane bi-directional facility and as unidirectional by Rasoolpura Project Director Sujeeth Veluri. Its arms will head towards Patigadda and Secunderabad.
• The ₹108.02-crore Patigadda Road Over Bridge will run from Paigah Palace to P. V. Narasimha Rao Marg, linking Patigadda and reducing travel distance for nearby residents.
• The Patigadda stretch from RBI Quarters, past Sanjeevaiah Park Railway Station, to P. V. Narasimha Rao Marg will be widened to 100 feet.

The projects, proposed under H-CITI following a GHMC traffic study, are expected to ease congestion on the P. V. Narasimha Rao Marg–James Street–Minister Road–Rasoolpura corridor. Areas cited include Begumpet, Rasoolpura, Prakashnagar, Vallabhnagar, Airlines Colony, Patigadda, Sardar Patel Road and Vikar Nagar.

HMDA has started soil testing on a 5.4 km elevated corridor from Paradise Junction to Military Dairy Farm Road along NH-44, extending towards Suchitra Junction. The Rs 1,580 crore project is being executed by MVR Infra Projects Pvt Ltd. After soil tests determine suitability, traffic police permission will be sought for traffic diversion. Work on shifting underground utilities including 1,000 mm and 800 mm water pipelines is nearing completion. The six-lane corridor will include a 4.6 km elevated section and a 600-metre underground tunnel near Begumpet Airport. The tunnel was approved by Airports Authority of India in March 2025 due to a steep curve at the airport boundary and will accommodate a future Metro Rail line on a double-decker structure. The corridor covers Secunderabad, Tadbund Junction and Bowenpally Junction, ending at Dairy Farm Road. Currently 1.5 to 2 lakh vehicles travel daily between Paradise Circle and Dairy Farm Road. The corridor is expected to reduce travel time to 30 minutes and benefit commuters heading towards Medchal, Medak, Kamareddy, Nizamabad, Nirmal and Adilabad via NH-44. Expected benefits include reduced signalised junctions, improved fuel efficiency, lower emissions, and smoother connectivity from city centre to ORR.

HMDA issued Request for Proposals for elevated corridor-cum-tunnel between Paradise and Dairy Farm Road under EPC turnkey system. Scope includes survey, investigation, detailed design, drawings, and construction of elevated corridor and tunnels with all components. Cost of utility shifting (water pipelines, electrical poles) on 5.4km corridor will be borne by HMDA. Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy laid foundation on March 8. Six-lane corridor on National Highway 44 will fly over Tadbund and Bowenpally junctions and circumvent Begumpet airport via 600-metre tunnel. Tunnel construction limited to night time with Airports Authority of India coordination; approval recently granted. Expected to resolve chronic traffic congestion for city commuters and National Highway 44 travellers.

The Airports Authority of India (AAI) granted approval to Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) for construction of a 0.6 km underground tunnel on the airside of Hyderabad Airport, Begumpet. Director General of Civil Aviation approved the concept, design and execution for a six-lane tunnel along NH-44 through the airside. Revised declared distances will restrict airport operations to Code C aircraft. HMDA must ensure compliance with International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) standards for tunnel strength and implement necessary mitigation measures.

The elevated corridor spans 5.40 km total length, passing through Secunderabad, Tarbund and Bowenpally Junctions, ending at Dairy Farm Road. Project cost: Rs 652 crore. It will pass three major junctions—Paradise, Tadbund and Bowenpally—to alleviate traffic congestion in Secunderabad and Hyderabad. The expressway will benefit commuters heading to Medchal-Malkajgiri district and northern Telangana towns.
