The Secunderabad Cantonment Board (SCB) unanimously issued a no-objection certificate to the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) for a four-lane, uni-directional Y-shaped flyover at Rasoolpura junction. The decision was taken at Friday’s meeting attended by SCB President Brigadier S Rajiv, Cantonment MLA N Sri Ganesh and nominated member Bhanuka Narmada.

The GHMC will take up the estimated ₹150-crore project under the Hyderabad City Innovative and Transformative Infrastructure (HiCITI) programme. Starting north of the HMRL building, the flyover will split into two arms: three lanes, 11 metres wide, towards Minister Road; and two lanes, 7.5 metres wide, towards Patigadda. The Defence Estates Office, Telangana and AP, has permitted use of B-2 land owned by the Defence Ministry and controlled by the State government.

The project was proposed in January 2022 under the Strategic Road Development Programme. The Board also reported primary Ministry of Defence approval for HMDA to build two elevated corridors in the Cantonment area, subject to final land and property demarcation.

On Thursday, the GHMC Standing Committee unanimously approved land acquisition in Secunderabad Cantonment for two alternate roads/rail overbridges at AoC Circle and a four-lane, unidirectional Rasoolpura Junction. It also approved acquisition of seven properties for the proposed flyover from Owaisi Junction towards Santosh Nagar, and 106 properties for grade separators at Fatehbowli and Nanal Nagar junctions.

The committee approved 18 agenda items in total, including a primary food testing laboratory in KPHB Colony and a multi-level parking complex near Khilwat.

Telangana Revenue and Housing Minister Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy inaugurated 288 double-bedroom houses in Rasoolpura on Saturday, September 27, 2025, under the Indiramma housing scheme. Hyderabad In-charge Minister Ponnam Prabhakar, local MP Etela Rajender, Rajya Sabha member Anil Kumar Yadav, local MLA Sri Ganesh, Deputy Mayor Srilatha Reddy and Secunderabad Cantonment CEO Naik attended.

Reddy said the state had provided 4.5 lakh Indiramma houses across Telangana despite its financial situation. For beneficiaries within GHMC limits, the government plans to construct apartments and repair previously built houses. He asked Rajender to seek central government clearances to prevent poor residents from facing difficulties with army officials in the Cantonment area.

HYDRAA demolished illegal structures on Friday along a 150-metre stretch of Patny nala in Rasoolpura. A preliminary assessment by HYDRAA and Secunderabad Cantonment Board (SCB) officials found that 55–60 feet of the 70-foot-wide nala had been encroached upon.

Residents of Paigah Colony, Patny Colony, Viman Nagar, BHEL Colony and Indiramma Nagar had complained of frequent monsoon flooding. HYDRAA Commissioner AV Ranganath and SCB officials inspected the site on Thursday. SCB plans to build retaining walls to prevent future encroachments. Residents said sewage water had flooded homes during monsoons for decades and urged widening the nala to improve downstream flow.

GHMC has proposed two projects to ease traffic on the Begumpet–Sardar Patel Road corridor and improve vehicle flow from Panjagutta flyover to Rasoolpura via Begumpet and Prakashnagar.

• A ₹150-crore, approximately 850-metre Y-shaped flyover near the Hyderabad Metro Rail Limited office in Rasoolpura will split into a three-lane arm towards Minister’s Road and a two-lane arm towards Patigadda Road. It is described as a four-lane bi-directional facility and as unidirectional by Rasoolpura Project Director Sujeeth Veluri. Its arms will head towards Patigadda and Secunderabad.
• The ₹108.02-crore Patigadda Road Over Bridge will run from Paigah Palace to P. V. Narasimha Rao Marg, linking Patigadda and reducing travel distance for nearby residents.
• The Patigadda stretch from RBI Quarters, past Sanjeevaiah Park Railway Station, to P. V. Narasimha Rao Marg will be widened to 100 feet.

The projects, proposed under H-CITI following a GHMC traffic study, are expected to ease congestion on the P. V. Narasimha Rao Marg–James Street–Minister Road–Rasoolpura corridor. Areas cited include Begumpet, Rasoolpura, Prakashnagar, Vallabhnagar, Airlines Colony, Patigadda, Sardar Patel Road and Vikar Nagar.
