Local residents of Range Hills area have complained about poor condition of approximately 1km-long Central Avenue road which is under management of Ammunition Factory Khadki.

Pune Metro line 1 (PCMC to Swargate) and line 2 (Vanaz to Ramwadi) are operational, but two line 1 stations remain non-operational: Khadki and Range Hills.

Khadki metro station is nearing completion and expected to be operational in December. Commissioner of metro railway safety (CMRS) will inspect facilities, structure and safety measures before opening.

Range Hills is an elevated metro station on corridor 1 between Khadki and Shivajinagar stations. Construction has not yet started; the administration plans to begin next month. Officials stated they waited for more residential and commercial developments in the surrounding area before starting. The station is included in the Detailed Project Report (DPR) so development is obligated. Plans include connecting the station to Agriculture College grounds used for exhibitions and commercial events.

Pune Metro has begun renaming six metro stations: Civil Court renamed Pune District Court, Budhwar Peth renamed Kasba Peth. Future renamings: Bhosari to Nashik Phata, Mangalwar Peth to RTO. A letter sent to state government requesting name changes based on public demand. Proposals forwarded to central government for official gazette notification; implementation proceeding as gazette process is considered formality.

Residents, St Thomas School and Mount Vert society, along with residents from 12 other Aundh areas, protested on Friday against a new entrance gate at Khadki railway station. They say it would worsen congestion where three roads meet and endanger pedestrians and schoolchildren. One resident said the 500-metre journey from Khadki underpass to her society can take over 30 minutes at night amid heavy vehicle traffic. Residents propose moving the gate 200 metres towards Sai Mandir; railway officials say it is on government land and does not touch the school or society walls. A letter from St Thomas School and a nearby society was sent to the Divisional Railway Manager’s office. Supporters say the gate will improve access and traffic flow; one cited the PMC development plan’s provision to widen the road towards the society to 15 feet.

Khadki station’s revamp began May 10 and includes three gates for two additional platforms. The station is being upgraded alongside Hadapsar to ease railway traffic management at Pune station. The protest began after Khadki’s first passenger train to Indore ran on October 2. Khadki underpass widening, expected to take six months, remains delayed and pothole-ridden.

Traffic changes cover construction from Anand Rishiji Maharaj Chowk near Savitribai Phule Pune University to Shivajinagar Court, including a porter beam at Pune University Chowk and girder launching near the Reserve Bank office. Deputy Commissioner of Police Amol Zende announced the plan on Tuesday.

• From Bremen Chowk, two-, three- and four-wheelers may travel to Pune University Chowk; goods vehicles, PMPML and luxury buses are barred. Vehicles will pass the university’s main entrance, turn right at VAMNICOM and continue to Ganeshkhind Road.
• To reach Shivajinagar or Deccan, traffic from Bremen Chowk will use Jaikar Path, Ambedkar Chowk, Sai Chowk, Symphony Chowk, Unit 4 Crime Branch and Agricultural College Road, via NT Wadi and Shimla Chowks. RTO, Pune Station and Nagar Road-bound vehicles can use Bopodi Chowk, the railway subway or Poultry Underpass.
• PMPML buses from Hinjewadi and Sangvi to Senapati Bapat Road will divert via Rishi Malhotra Chowk, Parihar Chowk, Baner Road and Vidyapeeth Chowk. Ganeshkhind Road is restricted between Vidyapeeth Chowk and Range Hills Chowk.
• Range Hills traffic will use Symphony Circle, Unit 4, Agricultural College Road, NT Wadi and Shimla Office Chowk. Access from Shimla Office Chowk to COEP Hostel via SG Barve Chowk is closed for pillar work; use Sancheti Hospital routes. Entry from Shimla Office Chowk to Kamgar Putla Chowk is barred daily, 10 pm–7 am. Poultry Farm Chowk traffic cannot use the railway underpass towards Range Hills; use Church Chowk and the Khadki Police Station underpass to Sai Chowk.
