NHAI is redesigning the planned vehicular underpass and six-lane overbridge at Maruthi Nagar, the entry point to Tiruchi from the Chennai-Tiruchi-Thoothukudi National Highway. The project, estimated to cost approximately ₹45 crore, is intended to ease congestion at the busy, curved intersection. Existing carriageways would serve vehicles entering and exiting the highway, while through-traffic would use the overbridge. An automatic traffic signal and police barricades are already in place to slow vehicles and prevent accidents. Three tenders drew little response; contractors reportedly cited difficulties moving workers and materials at the site, as well as the need for traffic diversions during construction. NHAI hopes the revised design will attract bidders and expects the project to reach execution before the end of the financial year.
