Residents have urged the Karnataka government, Greater Bengaluru Authority, Bengaluru Smart Infrastructure Limited (B-SMILE) and other agencies to begin the proposed Kogilu–Sampigehalli Main Road via Gasthikempanahalli. The road, included in Revised Master Plan 2015, is intended to ease congestion and improve access to schools, neighbourhoods and public transport as residential areas expand. Residents say property buyers invested based on promised infrastructure and have paid stamp duty, property tax, cess, TDS and other statutory charges, but little progress has followed.

The then BBMP issued a Form-I notification on January 8, 2025, initiating land acquisition. Nearly 20 months later, residents say authorities have provided no clarity on status, construction or completion timelines. Planned to connect Kogilu Main Road near the Nayara petrol pump, the project has been taken over by B-SMILE under its Buffer Road initiative. Residents allege some landowners are seeking to change the approved alignment and want it retained without alteration absent public consultation. The road would serve communities including Adarsh Greens, Total Environment developments and Bren communities.

The Karnataka government told the High Court that land cleared at Kogilu’s Wasim and Fakir settlements was never allotted to residents and that several ownership documents were invalid.

The Yelahanka police arrested Waseem Baig, 55, and Vijay Kumar, 36, on January 7, 2026, after registering an FIR over alleged encroachment on government land at Fakir Colony in Kogilu village, north Bengaluru. Police said several people had occupied the land and built unauthorised sheds; the Greater Bengaluru Authority removed the encroachments. More than 300 homes on land earmarked for waste-management infrastructure in Kogilu, Yelahanka, were demolished on January 3. The case was registered under the Land Grabbing Prohibition Act. Police allege the two men were involved in the encroachment and facilitating unlawful land-grabbing. They were produced in court and remanded to 14 days of police custody. Police said investigations are continuing to identify others involved.

Bengaluru police registered an FIR against Vijay, Wasim Ulla Beg, Muniyanjanappa and Robin over alleged illegal construction and sale of makeshift houses on around four acres of government land in Survey No. 99, Kogilu village. The land was handed to Bengaluru Solid Waste Management Limited (BSWML) for waste-processing facilities and forms part of a 15-acre site.

On December 20, 2025, a coordinated eviction drive by BSWML, the district administration, Yelahanka police and Bengaluru North City Corporation demolished more than 160 unauthorised tin houses and sheds. At least 400 families were left homeless. BSWML Assistant General Manager Santosh Kumar Kadadi filed a complaint at Yelahanka Police Station on January 4, 2026. Police arrested Vijay and Wasim Ulla Beg on Wednesday evening and are questioning them; the investigation continues.

Fifteen days after more than 150 houses and sheds were demolished in Kogilu Layout, Fakir Colony and Waseem Layout, Yelahanka police filed an FIR on January 4 against Vijay, Waseemullah Baig, Muni Anjinappa and Robin under sections of the Karnataka Land Revenue Act. A complaint by Bengaluru Solid Waste Management Limited (BSWML) engineer Santoshkumar Kaddi alleges they took money and facilitated unauthorised houses on 14 acres and 36 guntas of government land transferred to BSWML. The land was earmarked for bio-methanisation, dry-waste, plastic-waste and sanitary-waste processing units. Tenders were floated and work orders issued in 2023, but about four acres were found occupied by hutments and makeshift structures, delaying the projects. A joint eviction drive by BSWML, Revenue Department and police, supported by the Bengaluru North taluk administration, removed around 160 structures on December 20, 2025. A separate FIR was filed against five people over a protest near the demolition site, which a complaint said caused a law-and-order issue and violated a Karnataka High Court order.
