Kasturi Nagar is a quiet location with good connectivity to all vital areas of Bangalore. A location preferred by most of the techies primarily due to the good connectivity to Marathalli, Whitefield and various other areas. An area with all the facilities available within easy reach.

Kasturi Nagar residents revive Channasandra Lake

Residents of Kasturi Nagar, Bangalore are restoring the 6.19-acre Channasandra Lake with community contributions and NGO support after authorities failed to act.

Key facts

Channasandra Lake in CV Raman Nagar assembly constituency originally spanned 19.17 acres per forest department records. The lake has been severely reduced by encroachment and used for debris and waste dumping.

BDA developed Kasturi Nagar Layout in 1989 on about 6.35 acres of the lake area; Railway Department had taken 4 acres earlier.

After appeals to BBMP and BDA failed, residents approached the Forest Department and received an NOC from Deputy Conservator of Forest (Urban) Ravindra for rejuvenation. With NGO 'Hands-On' support, residents:

  • Raised Rs 6.5 lakh through community contribution
  • Cleared silt and constructed inlet and outlet channels
  • Installed 1,000 foot-long running fence
  • Spent Rs 40 lakh total on restoration with CSR funding
  • Plan to plant 6,000 saplings and create a Miyawaki forest

Kasturi Nagar Welfare Association and Lake Rescue Team led the initiative after BBMP and BDA responsibility disputes resolved with Forest Department confirmation of ownership.
