A neem tree beside Sri Mahankali temple in Karkhana stands in the road carriageway, where traffic police say it creates rush-hour bottlenecks and an accident hazard; both minor and fatal accidents have occurred nearby. Road widening and work on the elevated corridor from Jubilee Bus Station towards Thumkunta will alter the Secunderabad stretch. Devotees regard the tree as Mahankali and oppose translocation. Temple authorities have agreed to shift the temple arch and accommodate other works, but want the junction redesigned as an X-road, connecting towards Marredpally via Vasavi Nagar bylanes and towards Bowenpally via Sikh Village. ACP G. Shankar Raju of the Trimulgherry Traffic Division has discussed safe translocation and promised care at a new location. On Wednesday, August 12, 2026, Telangana BJP president N. Ramchander Rao urged Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy to raise compensation for homes and commercial establishments affected by the proposed elevated corridor on Rajiv Rahadari in Karkhana. In a letter, he sought a property-wise reassessment based on prevailing market values, consultation with affected residents and payment before possession. Rao said owners had cooperated with authorities but compensation should reflect property values and the loss of homes, businesses and livelihoods. Citing compensation for properties acquired in Tumkunta, which he claimed was 10 times actual property value, Rao sought the same basis for Karkhana.

More than 200 property owners from Karkhana and adjoining areas in Secunderabad Cantonment protested the proposed widening of Rajiv Rahadari State Highway-1 from 100 to 200 feet for an elevated corridor between Gymkhana Ground and ORR Junction (Shamirpet). The Rajiv Rahadari Property Owners Joint Action Committee (JAC), led by chairman Telukunta Satish Gupta, said properties worth crores of rupees, protected for over five decades, would be affected. The JAC demanded that the Congress government limit the road width to 100 feet, provide displaced owners alternative commercial land within Hyderabad, and offer one government job to an eligible member of each affected family. Protesters rallied from Bolarum to Lothukunta, sat on the main road and caused heavy traffic jams.

• The 18.1-km elevated corridor along Rajiv Rahadari (SH-1), from Paradise Junction to the Outer Ring Road at Shamirpet, is planned with multiple entry and exit ramps. It will help motorists travelling between the city and Alwal, Bolarum, Kowkur, Thumkunta and Shamirpet bypass busy junctions; the existing road will continue serving local traffic.
• Commuters from Shamirpet and Thumkunta currently pass through Hakimpet, Bolarum, Alwal, Trimulghery, Karkhana and Patny to reach Paradise. One commuter said his Begumpet-to-Kowkur trip has grown from 35–40 minutes four years ago to more than an hour.
• Preparatory widening has led to demolitions of shops, hospitals and other establishments in Lothkunta and Shamirpet. The Trimulgherry RTO office and Marredpally Traffic Police Station are also to be demolished. Residents anticipate disruption from construction and diversions, while some question whether more road capacity alone will ease congestion.
• HMDA estimates completion by the beginning of 2028.

• The Rajiv Rahadari Property Owners’ Joint Action Committee held a peaceful deeksha at the Ambedkar Statue in Karkhana. Property and building owners, traders, shopkeepers, tenants and employees from different stretches participated.
• They demanded that the compensation formula reportedly used in Thumkunta also apply in Vikrampuri, Karkhana, Vasavi Nagar, Tirumalagiri, Lal Bazar, Lothkunta and Alwal.
• JAC chairman Telukunta Satish Gupta alleged that affected owners were offered different compensation for the same road-widening project. He said Thumkunta’s card value was around ₹10,600 per square yard, while compensation of nearly ₹1 lakh per square yard was reportedly paid.
• Gupta alleged collector and deputy collector office officials were pressuring owners, and urged the government to stop this and consult affected people. Protesters said they supported development but sought fair compensation for property, businesses and livelihoods lost.
