The Secunderabad Cantonment Board approved a ₹5.8-crore rejuvenation project for Trimulgherry lake, which has deteriorated into a cesspool. The work had been delayed by several issues, including failure to release funds. The decision was made at a board meeting chaired by Brigadier S Rajeev, who took oath as board president on Friday.

The board also approved an RCC retaining wall along the Patny nala in Rasoolpura, estimated to cost ₹1.5 crore, to prevent encroachments. HYDRAA recently demolished unauthorised structures beside the nala, which was widened to 20 metres. The SCB has asked the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority to help fund the wall; the proposal is under consideration, and work will begin after approval. HMDA is undertaking two elevated corridor projects in the cantonment.

Bowenpally playground in Secunderabad Cantonment is set to lose nearly half an acre for an elevated corridor under H-CITI. The development follows partial loss of Trimulgherry football ground. Local sports groups and youngsters have raised concerns about shrinking practice spaces.

Other infrastructure impacts in the area:

• Over 400 trees felled at Bollarum for SCB elevated corridor from Gymkhana Grounds to near Shamirpet.
• Proposed alternative roads around AOC Circle delayed due to pending Defence land transfer; Rs 960-crore project requires nearly 42 acres.
• BRS demanding 6,000 Indiramma houses on eight acres in Survey No. 157/1 in Secunderabad Cantonment.
• Approximately 650 families in Ambedkar Huts received demolition warnings with 15-day vacate notices.

• The 18.1-km elevated corridor along Rajiv Rahadari (SH-1), from Paradise Junction to the Outer Ring Road at Shamirpet, is planned with multiple entry and exit ramps. It will help motorists travelling between the city and Alwal, Bolarum, Kowkur, Thumkunta and Shamirpet bypass busy junctions; the existing road will continue serving local traffic.
• Commuters from Shamirpet and Thumkunta currently pass through Hakimpet, Bolarum, Alwal, Trimulghery, Karkhana and Patny to reach Paradise. One commuter said his Begumpet-to-Kowkur trip has grown from 35–40 minutes four years ago to more than an hour.
• Preparatory widening has led to demolitions of shops, hospitals and other establishments in Lothkunta and Shamirpet. The Trimulgherry RTO office and Marredpally Traffic Police Station are also to be demolished. Residents anticipate disruption from construction and diversions, while some question whether more road capacity alone will ease congestion.
• HMDA estimates completion by the beginning of 2028.

• The Rajiv Rahadari Property Owners’ Joint Action Committee held a peaceful deeksha at the Ambedkar Statue in Karkhana. Property and building owners, traders, shopkeepers, tenants and employees from different stretches participated.
• They demanded that the compensation formula reportedly used in Thumkunta also apply in Vikrampuri, Karkhana, Vasavi Nagar, Tirumalagiri, Lal Bazar, Lothkunta and Alwal.
• JAC chairman Telukunta Satish Gupta alleged that affected owners were offered different compensation for the same road-widening project. He said Thumkunta’s card value was around ₹10,600 per square yard, while compensation of nearly ₹1 lakh per square yard was reportedly paid.
• Gupta alleged collector and deputy collector office officials were pressuring owners, and urged the government to stop this and consult affected people. Protesters said they supported development but sought fair compensation for property, businesses and livelihoods lost.

The Paradise-Shamirpet elevated corridor project, planned along Rajiv Rahadari (State Highway-1), will run 18.1 km from Paradise Junction to the Outer Ring Road near Shamirpet via Trimulgherry, Karkhana, Lothkunta, Alwal, Bolarum and Thumkunta. Around 11.6 km will comprise an elevated six-lane flyover; remaining stretch includes service roads and a short underground tunnel near Hakimpet Air Force Station. The project aims to ease congestion on Secunderabad's busiest traffic corridors, particularly around the Lothkunta railway bridge. In Lothkunta, restaurants, medical shops, bakeries, general stores, sweet shops, tea stalls, automobile workshops and furniture stores have been demolished or await demolition, many serving the neighbourhood for over two decades. Notable losses include Sri Laxmi Reddy Sweets (operating since 2003), a three-year-old hospital at Lothkunta Y-junction, and a watch repair shop near Lakshmi Kala Mandir theatre in Venkatapuram. Demolished government facilities include Secunderabad North Zonal Regional Transport Authority office, Trimulgherry Traffic Police office and Karkhana Traffic Police Station. Land acquisition began in 2024; compensation awards passed March 2026. Project estimated to take three to four years. Once completed, traffic heading towards Shamirpet will move on the elevated corridor instead of internal roads, eliminating bottlenecks on the narrow State highway.
