NMMC Standing Committee rejected a proposal for a sports complex at Vashi Sector 10A. House Leader Sagar Naik opposed the project, citing unequal allocation of funds and neglect of sports infrastructure in Airoli, Ghansoli, Koparkhairane and Rabale. Proposal was defeated by majority vote with BJP having higher committee members. Belapur constituency already has sports facilities including swimming pool and indoor sports infrastructure, while Airoli Assembly constituency lacks a sports complex. Proposed project on Plot Nos. 11 and 12 at Vashi Sector 10A included hockey field, tennis courts, running track, pathways, parking and other sporting facilities. Shiv Sena members opposed rejection, arguing proposal should have been revised to include other areas lacking facilities rather than rejected outright. Debate acquired political dimension as Belapur is BJP legislator Manda Mhatre's constituency.
