Choolaimedu residents seek sewer upgrade and better connectivity

Choolaimedu residents asked for sewer repairs, more bus services, pedestrian subways and road decongestion measures at a meeting with the Thousand Lights MLA.

Residents of Choolaimedu met Assembly Speaker and Thousand Lights MLA J.C.D. Prabhakar in Choolaimedu to discuss civic and transport issues.
They asked for upgrades to old sewer lines in Zachariah Colony to prevent sewage blocks.
They said the sewer network needs a thorough investigation to find sources of frequent blockages.
Residents said the Nungambakkam subway is choked with traffic because of rising vehicle volume.
They suggested an elevated corridor at Nelson Manickam Road to ease congestion at the Choolaimedu High Road–Nelson Manickam Road junction and improve flow between Aminjikarai and Loyola College.
They said there are no buses from Choolaimedu to Arcot Road, Nelson Manickam Road and Nungambakkam Railway Station, so commuters depend on auto-rickshaws or walk 2 km to Nelson Manickam Road.
They sought resumption of small bus services in Choolaimedu.
They also asked for pedestrian subways at important junctions.
Prabhakar said the demands would be considered and civic issues would be addressed.
