Delhi Jal Board (DJB) has formally taken possession of 250 square metres of land in Rangpuri from Delhi Development Authority (DDA) to build a 6 million gallons per day (MGD) sewage treatment plant (STP).

A detailed project report (DPR) for the STP has been prepared. Tender process expected to follow soon, with work award expected by February 28, 2026. Construction expected to complete within 18 months of tender award.

The plant will treat sewage from Rangpuri, Vasant Kunj and neighbouring areas, preventing untreated waste entering a nearby pond.

National Green Tribunal (NGT) heard plea from Vasant Kunj resident about dust pollution and sewage dumping near blocks E-1 and E-2 (approximately 2,000 flats). Untreated sewage was being discharged into pond.

In December 2024, DDA blamed DJB for failing to take over sewerage and piped water supply services. DJB said it planned additional STP but required land from DDA. DJB had transferred ₹21.9 crore to DDA for decentralised sewage treatment plant (DSTP), but DDA sought additional ₹8.84 crore before transferring land.

NGT criticized both agencies in November 2024 for "lack of seriousness" in protecting Delhi's water bodies, saying they were "more concerned about their financial matters."

Tendering and construction expected to take approximately two years total.

• Chief Minister Atishi visited Rangpuri Pahari in south Delhi after Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena raised concerns about civic conditions there.
• Saxena had posted a clip of his visit to Rangpuri Pahari and other Delhi areas, describing “hellish living conditions” ahead of the February Delhi Assembly polls.
• Residents complained of overflowing sewers, stagnant stinking water, open drains, exorbitant electricity bills, poor hygiene and inadequate basic amenities.
• Atishi said cleanliness and overflowing drains in Rangpuri Pahari would be resolved within days.
• She also said the road and electricity problems would be solved soon.
• Saxena said there are no drains, streets are filled with silt and dirty water, roads are non-existent, electricity supply is uncertain, and drinking water is short.
• He said women have to carry water in buckets from tankers that come once in seven to eight days.
• Saxena had visited Rangpuri Pahari and Kapashera on the request of locals.
• He also said he had given suggestions to the MCD and the Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board to improve the situation.

Delhi High Court disposed of contempt petition filed by Westend Green Farms Society against Delhi Jal Board (DJB) for non-compliance with court orders dated October 15, 2025, and December 4, 2025, directing water supply. DJB agreed to supply water subject to payment of requisite charges. Society comprises approximately 170 high-end farmhouses in Rajokri and Rangpuri areas of Vasant Kunj. Residents pay substantial property tax running into crores annually. Court recorded DJB's undertaking to ensure water supply on immediate basis.
