Initial barricading set up ahead of Ramwadi Metro station towards Wagholi on Nagar Road for geotechnical and soil surveys. Metro work includes construction of six-lane elevated road with Metro viaduct above in double-decker structure.

Phase I covers 4.7 km from Ramwadi to Tuljabhavani Chowk with four stations: Vimannagar, Somnathnagar, Kharadi Bypass, Tuljabhavani Chowk. Maha Metro initiated bidding four months ago to appoint construction agency. Geotechnical surveys and soil testing to commence in next few days, followed by actual construction. Majority of 4.7 km viaduct aligned above existing Nagar Road. Currently Metro trains operate to Ramwadi station; extension begins ahead of that. Commuters urged better traffic management plan due to existing congestion issues, wrong-way driving from Yerwada to Wagholi, bottlenecks near junctions and U-turns. Metro, traffic police and PMC conducted joint inspections of entire stretch.

Efforts are being accelerated to expand the Metro network in Pune, with authorities now focusing on extending connectivity beyond the city limits to Wagholi. The proposed expansion is expected to connect the Ramwadi-Wagholi route.

Union Cabinet approved Phase 2 of Pune Metro Rail Project with two elevated corridors: Vanaz to Chandani Chowk and Ramwadi to Wagholi, extensions of existing Vanaz-Ramwadi corridor under Phase 1.

Integration: Will integrate at District Court Interchange Station with Line-1 (Nigdi-Katraj) and Line-3 (Hinjewadi-District Court) for seamless multimodal transit. Intercity bus services from Mumbai and Bengaluru will connect at Chandani Chowk; services from Ahilya Nagar and Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar at Wagholi.

Implementation: Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Limited (Maha-Metro) will execute all civil and electro-mechanical works. Pre-construction activities including topographical survey and detailed design consultancy have commenced.

Benefits: Will decongest arterial routes like Paud Road and Nagar Road, providing safe, fast, eco-friendly mobility.
