Pulianthope is an area in the heart of Chennai. Main railway stations like Basin Bridge, Central, Egmore are 0.25, 3, and 3.5 k.m distance respectively. Purasawalkam is only 1 km away which is like a T Nagar shopping center. Good transport, market, schools, temple are located nearby. Marwadies and Jains are accommodation more because Sowcarpet reached its saturation. Marriage halls and corporation offices are in walkable distance. Laborers of all kind available in and around this area.
The Pulianthope High Road consists B&C Mills in one end and Power House in another end due to that labourers and workers are very conveniently settled here. P H road is connecting road to Parries, and Vallalar Nagar to North and Central Chennai. Pattalam Bus stand is connecting Mount Road and South Chennai. Now a days big builders are concentrating Pulianthope for their projects. Arihand Promoters are one among them. Good schools like St Pauls H.S.S, Seventh Day, Douton Convent and Government, Corporation School are located within walkable distances.

Residents of Pattalam and Pulianthope in Chennai have been affected by drinking water contaminated by sewage for over 10 days, causing residents to fall ill. Affected areas include Munnuswamy Nagar, Parthasarathy Street, and Guruswamy Nagar in Pulianthope, and Pattalam. Recent rain (3.13 cm average rainfall recorded by GCC's ICCC within 24 hours since October 17, with peaks at Wimco Nagar 7.7 cm, Ennore 7 cm, Thiruvottiyur 6.3 cm) caused water stagnation mixing with sewage. Residents reported foul odour and discolouration in drinking water supply and suspect damaged sewer lines. Cases of loose stools, particularly affecting children, were reported at hospitals. Residents unable to draw clean water from common roadside pumps have resorted to collecting water from next streets. Greater Chennai Corporation acknowledged contamination in stagnated water was due to damage in metro water pipeline and stated it was pumping out sewage water and cleaning affected areas. Chennai Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board did not respond to requests for comment. Kannagi Nagar also urged drainage and stormwater drain desilting before November-December rains to prevent waterlogging, and relaying of damaged roads with potholes.

Residents across Chennai’s Egmore constituency report obstructed footpaths, traffic congestion, poorly maintained roads and garbage, while water supply has improved.

Residents in Chennai’s Egmore constituency say encroachments and traffic affect both better-off and working-class neighbourhoods. Chetpet, Egmore, Vepery and parts of Kilpauk are among the better-off pockets; Choolai, Park Town, Purasaiwakkam and Kannappar Nagar are described as dense, working-class areas.

Footpaths on Pantheon Road and Red Cross Road are occupied by eateries. Traffic crawls amid encroachments in Pudupet, Pulianthope and around Moore Market. Residents cite congestion near schools and inadequate school safety zones. Choolai’s inner streets have had damaged roads for much of the past five years, with patchwork repairs providing little relief. Vepery High Road, Hunters Road and Strahans (Demellows) Road face persistent congestion and junction bottlenecks.

Residents also report irregular garbage clearance in Purasaiwakkam and Choolai, and dumping and burning along the Cooum banks. Choolai residents say water supply has improved, ending reliance on tankers. Residents appreciate school redevelopment and park maintenance. A corporation survey places a major share of the homeless population in the Egmore constituency, including Royapuram. The reserved constituency has been a DMK stronghold for decades.
