Track-laying began about a week ago on the completed Akurdi–Nigdi stretch of the 4.4-km PCMC–Nigdi Metro extension; electrical and mechanical works started last month. About 75% of the viaduct is complete. Maha Metro is laying tracks on ready sections before the entire elevated structure is finished to shorten the schedule.

Construction began in August 2024, and substantial completion is targeted for next year. The next six to eight months will focus on stations, a time-consuming phase. Four stations beyond the existing PCMC station are planned: Chinchwad, Akurdi, Nigdi and Bhakti Shakti Chowk. Their locations are finalised, and required land is available without major acquisition issues.

Passengers travelling towards Nigdi currently change at Pimpri for a PMPML bus. Commuters have urged completion by March 2027. Motorists have reported damaged roads near construction sites; Maha Metro is coordinating repairs and maintenance with the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation.

Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Limited (MahaMetro) submitted the Detailed Project Report for the proposed Nigdi–Chakan metro line to the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC). The 35–40-kilometre route would start at Bhakti-Shakti Chowk in Nigdi and extend to Chakan, connecting nearly 75% of Pimpri-Chinchwad. MLA Shankar Jagtap confirmed the submission on August 12, 2025. The line is expected to provide commuters travelling to Chakan MIDC and other commercial areas with a reliable, green transport option, improve connectivity along the industrial belt and support industry and the local economy. Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar has also suggested extending the metro network from Loni Kalbhor to Uruli Kanchan to address congestion on the Pune–Solapur Highway and support urban growth.

The 4.4-km elevated Phase One extension from PCMC to Bhakti Shakti in Nigdi will add stations at Chinchwad, Akurdi and Nigdi. Its foundation stone was laid by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in March 2024; construction began in August 2024. Pune Metro Executive Director Hemant Sonawane said civil work is progressing and the target is 30 months, against a 36-month deadline. Administrative processes for escalators, lifts and overhead cables are complete. The project is estimated to cost ₹1,048.22 crore and includes stations, intermodal integration, pedestrian bridges, environmental assessments, depots and parking.

The 17.4-km Swargate–PCMC line is operational. The 5.5-km underground Swargate–Katraj extension is pending until 2029; the 15.7-km Vanaz–Ramwadi route is operational. Approved extensions toward Chandani Chowk and Wagholi span 12.75 km, with 13 stations, and are due within four years at ₹3,636.24 crore. PMRDA’s 23-km Hinjewadi–Shivajinagar District Court Line 3 is slated to begin operations by March 2026.

• Landslides and wall collapse killed four people, including three family members whose house was buried when part of Visapur Fort collapsed in Patan village, Maval. A labourer died and eight people were injured when a retaining wall collapsed at Bhel Chowk, Nigdi. Two motorcyclists were swept away near Shelu-Kurkundi village in Khed; search operations continued.
• Landslides were reported at 22 locations. The Mumbai-Pune Expressway was partly closed, including near the Missing Link, while debris clearance and traffic restoration continued. Twenty-seven revenue circles recorded over 65 mm of rain in 48 hours; Maval recorded 237.3 mm.
• Deputy Chief Minister Sunetra Pawar said 568 people had been rescued or moved to safer places. In Maval, 250 Taje residents were relocated and 30 employees rescued from a stranded bus near Talegaon; an NDRF team rescued 37 passengers from a bus near Ghorawadi station.
• Khadakwasla dam was 34% full at 4 pm and could reach about 80% within 24 hours if inflows continued. Schools in Maval and six other tehsils were to close July 7 under an orange alert.

Strong winds around 3 pm on Saturday blew several iron sheets from a temporary workers’ shed at the under-construction Pimpri-to-Nigdi Pune Metro route onto the Old Pune-Mumbai Highway near Bhakti-Shakti Chowk, Nigdi. One sheet landed in front of a motorcyclist, who avoided a crash. No injuries or casualties were reported.

The incident briefly disrupted traffic and caused congestion. Workers and officials removed the sheets after residents alerted authorities. Commuters and residents questioned safety measures at the site and alleged that Maha Metro had not adequately secured temporary structures despite forecasts of strong winds. Further action and an inspection by the concerned authorities are expected. The incident occurred on Saturday, May 9, 2026; the report was published May 10.
