• Chennai Metro Asset Management Limited (CMAML), a joint venture of Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) and Tamil Nadu Industrial Development Corporation (TIDCO), has invited bids for an integrated development project at Mandaveli Bus Depot and Terminal.
• The project cost is Rs 151 crore.
• It is part of Corridor 3 of Chennai Metro Phase II.
• The upcoming Mandaveli underground metro station’s entry and exit structures will be integrated into the existing bus depot footprint.
• The goal is to combine metro access with bus pick-up and drop-off bays in a single multimodal complex.
• The project covers two adjoining land parcels:
• 0.745 acres with 13,419 sq m built-up area
• 0.88 acres with 15,966 sq m built-up area
• Both parcels will have dual access from RK Mutt Road and connecting side streets.
• The complex will have two towers.

A fire broke out on the morning of July 2, 2025, at the Greater Chennai Corporation’s Material Recovery Facility on Kamaraj Salai in R.A. Puram, attached to Ward 171 (formerly Ward 173). About seven hours after firefighters extinguished the flames, volatile organic compound (VOC) off-gassing and its smell remained. Residents’ representatives K.L. Balasubramanian of RK Nagarra community and Ganga Sridhar of Mandaveli Raja Street Residents Welfare Association said the fire was expected: an earlier fire had not led to significant preventive action. Discarded mattresses had accumulated for days, alongside old furniture; residents said regular clearance might have prevented the fire. Workers cleared some material during the incident. Sridhar recalled that a poorly managed facility on Sringeri Mutt Road beside the Buckingham Canal frequently caught fire and was eventually closed. Residents called for effective measures, including regular clearance, to prevent recurrence.
