17.3mm Rain Floods Bengaluru Roads and Disrupts Traffic

A 17.3mm downpour flooded roads and underpasses across Bengaluru, caused tree falls and traffic jams, and prompted officials to pursue drainage fixes.

Bengaluru received 17.3 mm of rain between 3.30 and 5 pm on Monday, flooding roads in Hennur, Doddanekundi, Okalipuram, ITPL, Kasturinagar and Indiranagar, as well as Shivananda Circle and Hoodi underpasses. Waterlogging affected roads near Samhita Serenity Apartment in Doddanekundi, the Hebbal Flyover Airport-bound down ramp, Rainbow Service Road towards Mahadevapura, Kasturinagar down ramp towards Hebbal, Windsor Manor Bridge towards High Ground Junction and roads in Kodigehalli near Yelahanka. Water receded after the rain, but traffic disruption continued. Officials said these areas flood regularly. Vent work at Geddalahalli has reduced flooding in Sai Layout and Vaddarapalya; the corporation is pursuing Railway Department work on underpasses at Hoodi and Panathur. Trees and branches fell in Indiranagar and HAL 2nd Stage and were cleared. Traffic was also affected across numerous routes, including Airport Road, Koramangala Inner Ring Road and HBR Layout Main Road in Nagavara. GKVK recorded 52.5 mm, Chikkaballapur 42.5 mm, HAL Airport 5.3 mm and KIA 3.8 mm. The IMD forecast more rain in south-interior and coastal Karnataka on Tuesday.

KIADB to Collect Property Tax in Mysuru Special Investment Regions

Karnataka has directed industries in the Mysuru-Thandya and Mysuru-Hebbal Special Investment Regions to pay property tax only to KIADB from April 1.

Karnataka has notified the Karnataka Industrial Areas Development Board (KIADB) as the sole property-tax collector for the Mysuru-Thandya and Mysuru-Hebbal Special Investment Regions (SIRs), effective April 1, 2025. Industries had paid local bodies in addition to KIADB maintenance charges, while complaining that services did not match the taxes.
The Mysuru-Thandya SIR coverage includes Kadakola, Adakanahalli, Kochanahalli, Immavu, Thandya 2nd Phase First Stage, Thandya 2nd Phase, Thandya Industrial Area, Women’s Entrepreneur Park Phases 1 and 2, single-unit complexes and Film City. Mysuru-Hebbal covers Hebbala, Hootagalli, Belavadi, Belagola, Koorgalli, Hebbal 2nd Phase Industrial Area, BEML Industrial Area and single-unit complexes.
Mysuru Industries Association secretary Suresh Kumar Jain said the issue had been raised for nearly 30 years and that gram panchayats and town municipal corporations charged higher rates than elsewhere in Karnataka. He cited Hootagalli industries’ ₹60 crore in property tax, with less than 60 paise spent on industrial-area development.
The association welcomed the decision but sought withdrawal of KIADB’s ₹15,000-per-acre maintenance fee and asked it to maintain roads, street lighting and water supply.
