Delhi government agencies continued their crackdown on illegal constructions, encroachments and building-safety violations on Sunday, demolishing illegal structures and sealing properties in Sainik Farm and Khanpur.

Delhi’s revenue department issued an October 30 notification to acquire 1,509.13 square metres in Khanpur village for a Metro viaduct and flyover, under the Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement Act, 2013, and a 2014 Ministry of Home Affairs notification. The acquisition is expected to affect 36 landowners, who may object within 60 days of publication. An Indian Institute of Public Administration social impact assessment found the land serves a legitimate public purpose and would have no adverse environmental impact.

The upper deck will carry the Metro viaduct; the lower deck will be a six-lane, 2.4-kilometre flyover. The project is part of Delhi Metro Rail Corporation’s Phase 4 Tughlakabad–Aerocity corridor. Construction at the Ambedkar Nagar t-point is under way, with pier-cap launching at Metro level and crossbeam installation for the road flyover initiated. It will be south Delhi’s first structure combining a Metro line and road flyover one above the other.

Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena approved the acquisition of a land parcel in Khanpur, south Delhi, needed to complete the Delhi Metro Phase IV Aerocity–Tughlaqabad corridor. The approval was reported on 15 October 2024.

Delhi government crackdown on Sunday demolished one property in Sainik Farm and sealed 10 others in Khanpur and Sainik Farm areas of South Delhi. Since June 1, cumulative action includes demolition of 95 properties and sealing of 124 properties across the capital. Show-cause notices issued to 84 under-construction properties; 41 properties sealed after notices served; demolition orders issued for 33 properties. Revenue Department inspected and issued notices to multiple sites across districts: 16 in North, 4 in New Delhi, 10 in South West, 6 in South East, 15 in East, 13 in North West, 5 in North East, 19 in Central North, 11 in Central, 31 in West. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta stated illegal constructions endangering public safety would not be tolerated. Government maintains violations of ground-plus-five construction limit will not be accepted; strict legal action will be taken against individuals, builders or institutions violating building norms.

Khanpur and Ambedkar Nagar stations on the Tughlaqabad–Aerocity Golden Line will be Delhi Metro’s first split-station design. Platforms will occupy separate structures on opposite sides of Mehrauli-Badarpur Road, connected by a 45-metre footbridge so passengers can cross above the road and access platforms from either side. The design avoids large-scale land acquisition while retaining full metro functionality.

Each station will have three levels—platform, concourse and footbridge—rather than the conventional two. Road-to-platform height will be about 20 metres; each station will be nine metres wide, compared with typical platform widths of three to four metres. Eight escalators and four lifts will connect ground and platform levels.
