Key facts
The Kattoor Police Station in Gandhipuram will be shifted to make way for the Periyar Grand Library project. The existing building will be demolished. The police station will operate temporarily from a location near the Thiruvalluvar (TNSETC) Bus Stand in Gandhipuram until a new permanent facility is ready.
The new police station will be built on 75 cents near the Prison Department's fuel station at an estimated cost of Rs 30 crore. The proposal has been submitted to the State Government.
The new building will house offices of law and order, crime, traffic, all-women police, and the Assistant Commissioner of Police under one roof. The relocation is expected to be completed by the end of the month.

Existing police buildings likely vacated by end of August. Public Works Minister E.V. Velu stated in July that library construction was expected to complete by December 2025.
