• One foot overbridge connecting the existing bus stand with Ukkadam Smart City Lake.
• Another near the flyover’s down ramp on Selvapuram Road, where the second terminal of Ukkadam Bus Stand is planned.
• Stairs will be provided on all bridges.
• Escalators will be installed for upward movement.
• Lifts will be provided at exit points for wheelchair users and elderly people.
• The Ukkadam design may be modified because of the metro project.
• Work is expected to begin after approvals, which may take about a month.

Established in 1974, Gandhipuram Central Bus Stand has crumbling ceilings, poor sanitation and inadequate passenger amenities, raising commuter safety concerns. The Coimbatore City Municipal Corporation (CCMC) says the Tamil Nadu government asked it to revise the detailed project report and explore redevelopment through a public-private partnership; the corporation plans to submit the revised report soon. Commissioner Katta Ravi Teja said temporary repairs, including fixing damaged sections and improving sanitation and toilets, would begin soon.

The proposal would replace the existing structure with a modern terminal costing about ₹35 crore, with basement parking for around 2,014 two-wheelers and four bus platforms to accommodate 70 buses. A team led by IIT Madras professor Dalinaidu inspected the facility and conducted a detailed study in 2024. The previous DMK government advanced the plan, but a change in state government delayed approval and funding. CCMC sources said the new TVK government is focusing on reviving the Vellalore integrated bus terminus project, not Gandhipuram’s redevelopment.

• Shopkeepers, building owners and commercial establishments are using public roads and pathways for parking, erecting barricades and fences, and reserving areas for customers. Residents report arguments with security personnel and say complaints have brought little visible enforcement; they seek fines, trade-licence cancellations and premises sealing.
• A footpath on Netaji Road near GKNM Hospital and Mani Higher Secondary School is completely barricaded, forcing pedestrians onto the busy road. Complaints also concern DB Road, East Arokiasamy Road, TV Samy Road and stretches in RS Puram, Gandhipuram and Saibaba Colony.
• Automobile showrooms near the Trichy Road flyover service road allegedly use public road sections for test-ride and customer vehicle parking.
• A Coimbatore City Municipal Corporation town-planning official said an enforcement drive is planned on Cross Cut Road in Gandhipuram, followed by other parts of the city. The corporation plans to remove encroachments, retrieve public property and impose fines; the commissioner will decide on sealing premises and suspending trade licences.

The proposed ₹35 crore redevelopment of Gandhipuram Central Bus Stand awaits administrative sanction from the department of municipal administration. A detailed project report was submitted in July but approval is pending. The redevelopment plan involves demolishing the existing structure and constructing a modern terminal with basement parking for 2,014 two-wheelers and four bus platforms capable of handling 70 buses. The delay occurs amid uncertainty over Coimbatore's ₹168 crore Vellalore integrated bus terminus project on 61 acres, proposed to consolidate several existing bus terminals.

Plans to relocate the State Express Transport Corporation (SETC) bus stand from its current site in Gandhipuram to Mettupalayam Road have been officially put on hold.
