Ghaziabad Approves ₹103 Crore Sports Complex Near Raj Nagar Extension

Uttar Pradesh approved ₹103 crore for a 51,000-square-metre multi-sports complex near Raj Nagar Extension, with construction expected to begin within six months.

Key facts

Uttar Pradesh has approved ₹103 crore for a multi-sports complex on about 51,000 square metres near the Karhera rotary and Hindon elevated road’s starting point. Ghaziabad Municipal Corporation submitted the proposal in May 2024. The site had been earmarked for a political training institute, scrapped in March 2023. Construction and Design Services, a unit of UP Jal Nigam, will deliver the project, funded through the state Smart City Mission. Officials expect work to start within six months and completion in about two years.

The complex will provide facilities for about 22 sports, including basketball, badminton, handball, kabaddi, karate, pickleball, lawn tennis, shooting, volleyball, water polo, swimming, gymnastics, yoga, kho-kho, boxing, table tennis and taekwondo. Outdoor facilities will include a cricket pitch, Fit India zone, volleyball court, jogging lawn, tennis lawns and children’s play area. Plans also include guest rooms, a cafeteria, banquet hall, sports goods shops, community lawns, 8,233 square metres for pavements and parking, and seating for about 300. Access is available via Hindon River Metro station, Hindon elevated road and Raj Nagar Extension Road. Seven Uttar Pradesh municipal corporations, including Ghaziabad, are eligible for ₹50 crore each over five years under the mission.
