Telangana Chief Secretary Sanjay Jaju inspected NH-44 and SH-01 elevated corridor projects, directing officials to fast-track land acquisition and resolve bottlenecks.

The corridor being developed by HMDA at Rs 1,487 crore comprises 3.095-km elevated stretch, 1.705-km at-grade section, and 600-metre tunnel under Begumpet airport. Expected completion within 36 months.

Status:

• Around 30% under construction
• Flyover section: 18 of 20 pillars completed with 18 erected; 6 pillar caps finished
• Stretch-II: 7 foundations and 3 pillars of planned 90 completed; 33 girders cast
• Defence compound wall: 2.10 of 2.79 km completed
• Defence structures: work begun on 29 of 36 identified structures

Land acquisition:

Construction of an elevated corridor between Paradise Junction and Dairy Farm Road on NH 44 begins October 30, with restrictions expected for nine months. The stretch between Rajiv Gandhi Statue junction and Balamrai remains closed in both directions throughout construction. Commuters advised to avoid Balamrai-CTO stretch due to anticipated congestion.

Traffic from Balanagar towards Panjagutta or Tank Bund diverted to Tadbund–Mastan Café–Diamond Point–Mudfort–NCC–JBS. Vehicles from Suchitra diverted to Safe Express–Bapuji Nagar–Centre Point–Diamond Point–Mudfort–NCC–JBS–SBI. Traffic from Tank Bund, Ranigunj, Panjagutta, Rasoolpura, or Plaza towards Tadbund via CTO diverted at Rajiv Gandhi Statue junction towards Anna Nagar–Balamrai–Tadbund. HMDA has started soil testing on a 5.4 km elevated corridor from Paradise Junction to Military Dairy Farm Road along NH-44, extending towards Suchitra Junction. The Rs 1,580 crore project is being executed by MVR Infra Projects Pvt Ltd. After soil tests determine suitability, traffic police permission will be sought for traffic diversion. Work on shifting underground utilities including 1,000 mm and 800 mm water pipelines is nearing completion. The six-lane corridor will include a 4.6 km elevated section and a 600-metre underground tunnel near Begumpet Airport. The tunnel was approved by Airports Authority of India in March 2025 due to a steep curve at the airport boundary and will accommodate a future Metro Rail line on a double-decker structure. The corridor covers Secunderabad, Tadbund Junction and Bowenpally Junction, ending at Dairy Farm Road. Currently 1.5 to 2 lakh vehicles travel daily between Paradise Circle and Dairy Farm Road. The corridor is expected to reduce travel time to 30 minutes and benefit commuters heading towards Medchal, Medak, Kamareddy, Nizamabad, Nirmal and Adilabad via NH-44. Expected benefits include reduced signalised junctions, improved fuel efficiency, lower emissions, and smoother connectivity from city centre to ORR.

The Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) will transfer 330 acres of government land to the Ministry of Defence (MoD) as compensation for acquiring approximately 160 acres of defence ministry land for elevated corridors.
