Allegations of large-scale illegal murum mining have surfaced at Vela and Sawali Wagh in Hinganghat taluka, Wardha district. Excavation at survey No. 151, a 4.17-hectare site, was permitted up to 5,500 brass by the revenue department. Hinganghat tehsildar Yogesh Shinde said the company had permission to excavate approximately 5,000 brass. Villagers allege nearly 25,000 brass was extracted, causing government revenue loss. The murum was used for the Vela-Mandgaon road project.
