Nagpur's Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar International Airport will see development of 271 hectares of surrounding city-side land by Multi-modal International Cargo Hub and Airport at Nagpur (MIHAN). The land comprises 122 hectares under AAI lease and 149 hectares under Maharashtra Airport Development Company regulations, separate from 900 hectares for core airport operations and 100 hectares for GNIAL commercial development. MIHAN floated a tender for feasibility study and master plan covering commercial, industrial, residential and aviation-linked developments. Consultant will conduct site appreciation, market demand assessments, traffic-access requirements and establish land disposal policies. GMR Nagpur International Airport Limited (GNIAL) is tasked with turning the airport into a world-class gateway handling 30 million passengers annually. MIL was created in 2009 as joint venture between MADC (51%) and AAI (49%). GNIAL signed formal concession agreement with MIL in October 2024 following Supreme Court decision upholding GMR's challenge to previous annulment in 2020.

The four extensions are Automotive Square–Kanhan River (13 km), Khapri–Butibori (18.7 km), Lokmanya Nagar–Hingna (6.7 km) and Prajapati Nagar–Transport Nagar (5.5 km). Soil testing and geotechnical surveys are complete on most reaches; piers are standing on the North-South corridor toward Kanhan, depot land is being cleared in the east, and land in MIHAN has been handed over.

Construction accelerated in 2023. Viaduct work was scheduled for 2024–25; track laying, station construction and AFC installation are planned for 2026. Full operations are targeted for December 2027, with some sections potentially opening earlier for trial runs.
